ivan cabrera joins me now.o sort of hit oregon and northern california as well but not as a hurricane, it's going to be much weaker, right? >> yeah, part of that system will eventually get there into the early part of next week. you're right, it's certainly not hitting as a hurricane no different than the storm that hit last week and one that's currently hitting and we've certainly had plenty of action. the reason, though, we're a bit concerned because of all of this moisture, all this rain, we have the potential for additional flooding and even mudslides. we'll have to watch that closing. 2.25 inches falling in portland. it's begun to rain there from the new system that has arrived. current satellite and radar loop. there you see the low spinning up. and this rainfall here is not falling lightly. this is heavy rain. it's also accompanied by significant wind gusts. i've seen reports upwards of 50, 60 miles an hour. so that's the kind of storm we're dealing with here. some of that moisture, of course, headed all

and ivan cabrera joins us.t's been erupting since 1983, and this has been creeping slowly closer. >> the reason we haven't heard about it till now is there's a crater that opened up this past summer. and through there, the lava instead of flowing south toward the ocean has been flowing toward the town. and that's the problem. we'll be able to show you on the big island, there's the volcano there. most of the activity has been flowing south, but through the crater now, we have been seeing the lava flowing here. this is the area that has been slowly preparing for this, because it has been a slow process. although the speed of this lava front has been varying over the last several days. it's not precise as to when it will get there. but we're thinking a few hours now. because 60 meters is not all that far away. it ran through the cemetery, going over the cemetery over the weekend. and now is when things are getting a bit dangerous here, because look at this. not very far away from town, and in fact, utility crews

here is ivan cabrera with more about it. ivan? >> good to see you, natalie. series of storms, in fact. one of them, after this weekend, will arrive in the form of what will be essentially what's left of a hurricane here, ana. we've been talking about that system in the pacific. we'll show you that in a second here. we have this low, getting ready to move in with significant wind gusts, in excess of 50 miles an hour here. one storm that already has moved through left a mark here, 2 1/2, 2 1/4 inches in portland. some areas picking up seven inches in a very short amount of time. that system earlier in the week and now this system about to crash into the pacific northwest with those winds. tell you whattay lot of rainfall as well. and very heavy snowfall across the higher elevation. and then this feature here that's moving in in the last few frames. that will be what's left of our hurricane, ana. i've broadened the picture here so we can get a perspective of where we are. there's the hurricane here. there's the united states there. this thing is going to race of

meteorologist ivan cabrera is tracking this and joins us with more. ivan, good to see you. dealing with its volcano, right, and the recovery efforts still ongoing there. could this impact that at all or is this just too far off? >> this storm, errol, good to see you, in fact, is headed right up towards the volcano here and now we're togging about 96 to 120 hours. four to five days out so we're hoping and thinking is that they would have recovered everyone by then and they would have completed that because if the track holds as we see it right now this is going right up towards central japan so we have a few days to get through this and the models are still not locked in on what we'll do. this is our new typhoon phanfone getting its act together in the western pacific heading up towards japan and i think it will likely impact japan in some way, shape or form. the hook is not going to be soon enough, the turn to the north and east we're expecting this to turn and you can see one of our modeling cranking this up. this may become the threshold for a super typhoon and we could d
