ivan cabrera is at the cnn weather center. is the pain going to stop in thailand? >> no, it is not.ot for awhile anyway. when we talk about river flooding it takes a while for things to flood and then it takes a while for the floods to recede. it's not like a flash flood and thailand is surrounded, bangkok in particular by all these rivers and tributaries and all swollen and overflowing their banks and all that water is trying to drain out and trying to find the path of least resistance. sometimes that is overpopulated areas so the good folks in bangkok is trying to protect the cdb from the water impending and moving ever so close, of course, the neighborhoods worst affect reasonable doubt to the north and east where we have the significant water standings but all of that will continue to flow the south. it will take some for that to happen. the domestic airport as we've been showing, there's tents in there as opposed to folks getting in and around. the airports a shelter even that may not be safe. we'll get some flooding there and areas where folks have been evacuated to. they've b

meteorologist ivan cabrera is at the cnn weather center. how did this come about?here will it go next. >> no question about it, a shocker of a snowstorm in october. here is a thought. this for a lot of places in the northeast is going to be the biggest snowstorm of the season. the season really hasn't even started here. if we get a bigger storm, that is saying something. look at this in jaffray, new hampshire, 80 current meters fell. some of these records have been ob lit greated and will stand for many, many years to come. there's western mags, the berkshires getting slammed, up to 58 centimeters of snowfall here. we have been buried to our knees and then some in some areas. because the water temperatures in the atlantic are relatively warm. the major cities, say new york, along the coast saw mostly a rain and mix event. we did not get the blockbuster totals we got just a few miles inland. even in new york city, something they haven't done before in central park, that is accumulate 7.4 centimeters of snowfall in month of october. in fact, that breaks the record fo

>>> also the latest on the record flooding across the country, let's go over to meteorologist ivan cabreraby at the cnn international weather center. iv ivan, we've been talking about this dramatic situation for weeks now. how much of a factor have the tides got to play about this and what more can you tell us about what's coming up. >> nina, good to see you. the tides have played an important role. heading into the weekend with astronomically high tides we'll get into more significant flooding. if we could only keep that water ankle deep we'd be in good shape, though i think it will be getting much higher in bangkok itself. as a result of that backing up. i'll explain that in a second. here's the grand palace, 2 1/2 meter embankment. that is how high this wall is that protects bangkok's city center from flooding. we have now reached record levels. we're at 2.55. we have seen the water overflowing the banks of that embankment here. here the chao pyria river. it's going over the banks along the main rivers. we have high tides that are coming in, especially heading into the weekend that will
