let's go to ivan cabrera at the cnn center with more details on that. ivan?yes, we need the rain obviously right to help the crop situation out here and also the co temperatures did not help at all. let's break down what has been happening here across europe. can't catch a break, first the freeze that you probably don't even remember now. it's just been so warm in western europe over the last few weeks but we did have a winter and it was cold in february. in fact, it was so cold it killed 5 million tons of winter wheat if you recall. now we're talking about not the cold, it's warm but now we don't have rain and we haven't had rain in a very long time here. we continue to see the drought worsening for the region. i will leave you with this, late spring rains, we'll be talking about that hopefully into april and may. summer too late, forget about it so hoping for april and may and i'll tell you why. i don't think it's going to range until then. drought increasing here talking about portions of northern italy, france has been impacted. spain, england, as well an

ivan cabrera is standing by to tell us about the climactic conditions in the area. hi there, ivan. be a problem here, i understand? >> winds are very, very important right now. good to see you there, nina. i just can't believe we're talking about relief wells again here after, of course, the disaster in the gulf of mexico here. but we're not talking about an i' oil spill. this is a gas leak. we have two things going on. we have the gas leak that they may try to cap here. that could take upwards of six months. the other situation, the more pressing situation, the flare that is still burning. that flare is burning, essentially the excess gases, this is a formal process when you shut off the rig, the gases, you don't want them to build up. . you have to burn them with the flare. the gas cloud needs to stay away from the flare, obviously, gas, flare, not a good combination. that could be a catastrophic explosion there. we certainly don't want that the to happen. we experienced that in 1988 with the piper alpha in the precise area east of aberdeen here. the winds are going to be key bec

ivan cabrera is at the international weather center with more. a private moan here, ivan.haven't seen the sun in hong kong for what seems like months now. will that likely continue? >> we are likely going to continue to see that. let us start where diana was there as weigh check in on conditions in europe where we desperately need the rain. a significant drought is under way across spain and into the uk as well. you see the spin. it's going the wrong way. that's an area of high pressure that will be dominating our pattern. the lows that have developed in the eastern mediterranean will get turkey with showers and snow. temperatures for today, 12 vienna, 20 in rome and low 20s in madrid. for now, we are doing okay across the north. but there you see the boundary there that andrew was referring to. that's going to continue to keep us with the low clouds and drizzle conditions over the next couple days. no really big storms in the offing right now. we have this weathermaker that will bring rain with snowfall to the north. temperatures for your wednesday in the low teens in sha

let's go to ivan cabrera in the weather center for more on that. >> good to see you. hopefully your flight, if you're traveling today, will be smooth. certainly more than that one. if you're traveling in europe, it's going to be warm. we have just fast forwarded here to june. forget spring. we have been talking about temperatures, look at this, low 20s, where normally this time of year we have single upper digit highs here. that's not been the case. june-like temperatures will continue so long as this high is protecting us here from the weather systems that would bring at least clouds to cover us up and keep us a little cooler. clouds that precipitate. none of that. that's all going around the high. all the action across eastern europe. look at this dive here across, very impressive on the satellite. we can't even make clouds here to the west. so with that, the temperatures will continue to be rather warm. madrid will be seeing temperatures into the low 20s once again as we head through the remainder of the week. the further west you are, the warmer it's going to be.
