what is your take on special counsel jack smith subpoenaing jared kushner and ivanka trump? they did both speak to your committee but they didn't remember much. do you really think that's going to change this time around? >> well, you know i have no more insight into what is going on in jack smith's investigation, the special counsel investigation anybody else does. we are not in touch with them, so i don't know exactly why they are subpoenaing them. it seems clear to me that both of those witnesses had a lot of information about what was going on in the lead up to january six and then on january six itself. jared kushner was over in saudi arabia working presumably on public business although he did come back the day after the trump administration and it creating his new private equity business that was then quickly financed with two billion dollars from the royal crown prince of saudi arabia in sovereign wealth funds. but that when he got back, he clearly was involved in some of the things going on and he and ivanka are both privy to those conversations. they testified to t

your committee heard from both ivanka and jared. we have not heard from the former vice president because he does not offer testimony before the january six committee. how important is it ridiculous to hear from the former vice president of the united states? what would you like to learn from him if you could share? >> i think it is important? his assertion that he has protection under the speech or debate clause is pretty weird. the constitution does provide that the vice president serves as the president of the senate. of course the 12th amendment has the president of the senate opening the office of the show than be counted. even if you assume serving as president of the senate somehow makes him a legislative branch officer, which i think is quite a stretch, opening the avalos and reading the results is not a legislative act. this ploy is not going to work in my judgment. he will testify. i would like to know some of the things that we were unable to get. there was a discussion between him and then president on the morning of the

on one hand, pushing mike pence to testimony or tried to compel them to testimony, subpoenaing ivankaared, talk about the importance of hearing from these three individuals and the tactic by the special counsel? >> i think what's important here is that we are moving up into the area at the people closest to the former president. his daughter, son-in-law, vice president, you also have a chief of staff, who's been subpoenaed. you have a lot of people who also have his lawyer, evan corcoran who's been subpoenaed. these are people who can give firsthand evidence in both the mar-a-lago case and all the events that led up about january six and about january six. i think it shows that the pace is really progressing. they have very clear testimony that they could be asked about, and at least, pence has said that he will fight the subpoena and, trump has suggested that he will claim executive privilege, while pence will claim a legislative privilege, speech and debate clause. i think both will fail for sure, and former president trump did not intervene when his daughter and son-in-law testifie
