ivanka trump was the point person in the family in the trump organization for this project.ow, it's not exactly clear what it is about this deal that has investigators so interested. this is another one of those arrangements where the trump organization doesn't actually own the property. they strike up this licensing and branding agreement with the developer. in this case, the developer is a malaysian guy, a member of one of the wealthiest families in malaysia. he's the one who actually owns this building. and then they sell off the condos. and as is customary with a lot of the trump properties, the condos have generated a lot of interest from foreign buyers. any one of these things could be a concern, but the timing of the deal is also really interesting. this is one of the few trump properties that actually opened after donald trump took office, it opened in february of 2017. >> thiwhy would counterintellige be interested in this? any idea? >> what you were talking about, anderson, there's a lot of concern over the contacts that really everyone around trump was having. jar

counter intelligence officials are skraut ni scrutinizing one of ivanka trump's business deals. i has been looking into the negotiations and financing surrounding trump international hotel in vancouver. and the scrutiny could be a hurdle for the first daughter as she tries to obtain a full security clearance in her role as vuzadviser to president trum. joining us to talk about it is former fbi and cia senior official phil mudd. and president obama's white house ethics czar, and also jen psaki. what does it tell you that the fbi hasn't been able to finish up or, you know, that the first daughter has not been able to get a full-time security clearance. >> let's make sure we understand two questions. first, i didn't see anything in the reporting that suggested she did anything wrong. that said, there are some key questions you've got to ask here if you're doing the security clearance. number one, did she declare any, we know we have a history in this administration of them not declaring their contacts. number two, does this company h have any dealings with the u.s. government. what

should the white house, should ivanka trump be concerned at this point?> i'm not sure she should be concerned from a legal liability standpoint from what we have seen. but from an appearance standpoint, they're having the same problems that jared kushner is having, they have buildings that are populated by a lot of foreign investors. either as investors or participants of the property. a lot of people, like in panama and in this case, they have links to government or organized crime and that creates a lot of problems potentially for them from a leverage, blackmailing standpoint. so, yeah, they should be concerned reputationally, not yet legally, but, you know, in the positions that they hold, reputation is as important as legal liability. >> and what about robert mueller at some point speaking to ivanka trump? i told shimon in the article he wrote last night, you were somewhat surprise ed he hasn't been. why? >> she sits in an important place in many of the key meetings. the air force one memo that was misleading statements about what happened on the june

sources tell cnn the fbi is zeroing in on ivanka's role for securing a row tail deal for the trump towern vancouver, canada. this extra attention could make it more difficult for ivanka to get the full security clearance she needs to be a full adviser to the president. i want to bring in shimon prokupecz. tell us what you know. >> reporter: there are some concerns over ivanka trump's overseas contacts with this one particular business deal, the trump vancouver tower in february 2017 just after the president was in the white house and ever since then the fbi has been going over some of her meetings, some of the people she's been talking to for that deal, some of the financial arrangements and there has been some concern. we don't know exactly what that concern is but certainly the concern has been raised by the counter intelligence investigators and analysts at the fbi who have been pouring over her security clearance and the background check and have noticed something, and this has certainly concerned them and has caused some hurdles for her in getting the clearance. much like her husban

sarah, i want to turn to your reporting on ivanka trump. u.s. counter intelligence officials are investigating wunl of her international business deals having to do with the trump international hotel and tower in vancouver, canada. what is this about? why is this deal attracting such scrutiny? >> well, it's an interesting one because it's not entirely clear what it is about this deal that attracted investigators's interest. ivanka trump was the point person on this and it works in very similar ways, a lot of these trump organization deals do. the trump organization doesn't actually buy the building, but they strike up this licensing and branding deal. in this case, the developer happens to be a member of one of the wealthiest families in malaysia. this particular property, which is a hotel as well as a condo unit, has like many trump properties attracted a number of foreign buyers. but it's also interesting because it's one of the few trump branded properties that opened since donald trump became president. so, this one opened in february of 2017
