j. d. vance, in the middle of april, changed this race in a way that probably has but j. d. you can absolutely have seen mandel winning this primary without j. d. vance doing as well as he's doing with the same table today. and you can see, i'll give an example of it right here, cuyahoga county, this is actually matt dolan. he's the one candidate trump sent he did not want winning this primary. this is dolan's base. and again, dolan is leading here. but when we are looking at numbers out of cuyahoga county about an hour ago, we just look at the early vote dolan was crushing violence. margins were about 20 points. now you can see, as the same day voters come, in vance has moved that into single digits. that's great for j. d. vance to be endorsed backyard and doing that well. you take a look in the suburbs, just north of columbus ohio, bedrock republican suburbs here. again, this is the kind of waves that dolan campaign very much wanted to win. they wanted to get big numbers. instead, vance looks like he's on his way to actually outright winning delaware county. hamilton county

j. d. vance in this competitive five way ohio senate primary, j. d. nce jumped by about 20 percentage points in the polls and won this here decisively. there is some reality that comes with this. one, just a couple of years ago, j. d. vance called donald trump an idiot and reprehensible. which suggests that no matter what one says in the past that as long as you ultimately give your loyalty to donald trump, you can be welcomed back into his orbit. there is also the reality that j. d. vance won this primary while propagating the 2020 conspiracy theories spoken by donald trump. the other reality is when we're talking about foreign policy here, this was the u. s. senate candidate in the height of war between russia and ukraine who said that, he quote, frankly doesn't care about ukraine. that is the candidate the republicans in the state have selected to take on tim ryan in november. >> doesn't care about ukraine. pushes the big lie. check. check. nbc news also projecting incumbent governor, mark do on, he run the republican domination for his reelection.

j. d. vance.in a crowded field, that endorsement still earned vance less than a third of the vote. twice as many republican primary voters cast their ballots for somebody else. so the question now, who gets their vote next? with their us tonight, juanita tolliver. vitamin -- and causes, and michael steele, former chairman of the republican national committee, and former lieutenant governor of maryland. michael, could tim ryan be right? he might not get all 23% of that vote, but could he get votes from republicans who voted against vance? >> sure. he's gonna have to work it though. it doesn't translate one for one. from a prime -- from a republican primary, which largely has hard right, center right voters. he's gonna have to work in edge those voters closer to himself. it's gonna matter how he sounds on a lot of issues in this race. keep in mind, dolan had the benefit of a surge at the end there. again, what were those voters -- one of the composition of those voters? why didn't they swing toward

j. d. vance, who is set ohio senate primary primaries tomorrow, he was talking about why he wants to join the senate. he says at one point, the part of the reason he wants trump to win and run again in 2024, if you think that if trump gets in there, he should fire every single government employee in the entire country, and fire them all at once. he acknowledges that there are legal protections for a lot of people in those jobs, and so that is sort of a mass firing, which has been a right-wing fantasy for a long time, that would be illegal. in j. d. vance orders because that, of course with that quote it through the courts, he should just pull and andrew jackson, and say that the chief justice has made him ruling, now let him enforce it. and that is, again, a sort of right wing man on a whitehorse fantasy about the kind of government and governing that they want. but it also shows that the court isn't in a safe position from the right, right now. and it's i think come under very serious scrutiny f
