j.c. chandor and robert redford, the film's star.d see you again. welcome. >> rose: good to see you. how did this start? >> it started with a letter which is how the film starts. so i was sitting on a train editing my first film, which is a film called "margin call" and i was going up and down the eastern sea board and there were thousands of thousands of boats that just get stores along the rail yard in the winter and i was passing all these boats that sort of at some point represent great dreams, probably, to all the people that owned them but when you see them sort of propped up, sitting through the winter there was sort of a great sadness about them and i sort of out of nowhere just wrote this letter which begins the film. it's the letter that starts the film and it's essentially a farewell note. so that note sat around for probably five or six months without anything else happening to it and then i slowly kind of built this crazy movie around it. >> rose: your character doesn't have a name. >> he doesn't. he's just a guy. he's c
