j.d. vance and donald trump, and that, frankly, works to the advantage of democrats and leaves the republicans sort of unsure about where to go. just to give you a sense of the numbers here, if you look at the averages, before the debate, joe biden was running 1.5 points behind donald trump. after the debate, it moved about .5 points against biden. the big thing that happened was not the debate, it was the coverage after the debate and the democratic reaction after the debate. when your own people -- the famous book written by a leninist about how our own people were killing each other in the show trials and so forth -- here we have our own people going on tv and explaining why joe biden was not fit to be president. that hurt, hurt a lot. that is when we saw the race move to -3 for biden after relatively small action after the debate itself. now with kamala harris at the top of the ticket, it is back to 1.7. so a little worse than it was going into the debate. but a couple things to rememb
