. >> jack dewey has set his sights on a career in medicine soon entering a nursing program.he'll be helping patients in all sorts of traditional ways and we suspect one very creative one. >> the emergency room at stanford hospital can be a very busy place, but not always. once in a great while things do get quiet. emergency room technician jack dewey remembers one such night last year. >> it was a very slow night. all the work was done. i couldn't go help anywhere else. >> reporter: there was, however, one young patient there, and jack went looking for something he could use to cheer the child up. he found all of these things, compression bandages, normally used to wrap wounds. >> it's the only thing here that we have that comes in any different color. it was a lot more of a friendly material to work with. there's a lot of sharp, pointy things here. that was the most fun. >> though he had never done anything like it before, jack created this orange fish in just a few minutes. >> and it turned out pretty well. i showed everybody in the department first. everyone got excited.
