let's bring back colonel jack jacobs, military analyst, here at msnbc, and we have heard from a couple of people, and andrea mentioned as well, that military interjengs vengs in north korea would be a mired mess. can -- intervention in north korea would be a mireded mess. can you explain that? >> well, it would be extremely difficult to do it. and one of the most important principle of war is the principle of the objective. that is to say, what is it that you are trying to accomplish before you make a decision to employ any resources, you have to decide what it is that you are trying to do. trying to dissuade the north kore koreans from continuing on the path in a measured kind of way is fraught with difficulty. they have all been enumerate and andrea mentioned the enormous dispersion and fragmentation of the force and the fact that a lot of it is reare vetted and underground and difficult to find and hit because there are so many of them, and in so many places, and so, it would be extremely difficult to do a surgical strike to stop the north koreans from doing what they are doing, and

and i'm joined by ayman and colonel jack jacobs, steve clemens and alisha habi. thank you so much for being here. colonel jack, i want to touch on this real quick because the president is in saudi arabia now but he's going to head to israel, italy and belgium over the next several days. is there an increased concern when it comes to security and the president's safety? that's something we haven't touched on yet. >> well, there is always an enormous focus on security wherever the president happens to be. the size of the presidential protection detail is much bigger than it used to be now. and when you're overseas, the requirements are even that much greater. there's an advanced team that goes several weeks out to coordinate with local law enforcement and with the national security apparatus in each of the countries that he visits. and it doesn't matter whether it's a friendly country or not. it's irrelevant. so you're talking about hundreds and hundreds of security people who go out .do the coordination well in advance. and attempt to make sure that everything is t

joining me now j retired colonel jack jacobs, steve clemmons, and jonathan allen. thank you all for being with me. >> good morning. >> let me go to you, colonel jaco jacobs. it's a trip that is set to try and call for unity and against terrorism. and then the first thing he does is a big arms deal with saudi arabia. i mean, we see the pomp and ceremony, a warm reception that they did not give president obama, and then an arms deal. how do you read this? >> well, the it's no change from the way it's been for many administrations. we've been close to saudi arabia for a long, long time. and far away from its principle adversary, iran, certainly since 1979. we've been selling arms to them for a long time. i remember being in various schools in the army basic, a general staff and so on, and we had saudi exchange officers in our classes, and just about all of the saudi air force has been trained by the united states. the long-time ambassador saudi ambassador to the united states, prince bandar was educated in the united states and learned to fly here. so we've had a very

i want to bring in now nbc news senior military analyst colonel jack jacobs. sir, as we talk about what's taking place, the live images we saw a minute ago as everyone is gathering around the grand table for the signing of this economic security agreement, talk about the type of inflow of money that will be to american companies like lockheed martin for munitions? >> the thing to keep in mind is the preparation for this goes back a long way. we've had foreign military sales to saudi arabia for a long time. a lot of the ships, for example and other munitions that they've got now go all the way back 30 years or so. this is a new generation of ships and equipment, precision munitions, and the idea to do this, to upgrade, goes all the way back to before 2008. this is a culmination of lots of negotiation and discussion, therefore, for almost ten years. quite frankly, it's long overdue, to the extent saudi arabia is actually going to use it in conjunction with our use of similar weapons in the region in order to destroy terrorists, isis and to defend our friends and

we want to go to colonel jack jacobs, military analyst for nbc and msnbc, and thank you for being withif any kind of military actions could or should follow things like this? both by the united states and within that own region? >> well, it may very well be that those in the region, as others will show force that we are paying attention as to what at the end of the day north korea is after. they ship in ships closer to north korea, and the likelihood of that is extremely small, because both we and others in the region recognize that the only way to solve the north korean problem is for, for there to be some multi party effort, and have the north koreans to stop what it is doing, and that is going to require negotiation, and participation with the chinese in particular, as well as the united states, but the longer it goes on, the longer the more time that the north koreans have to develop a delivery capability for nuclear weapons, the more difficult it becomes for our friends and allies in the region. japan, philippines and even vietnam are getting very, very concerned about our and the
