let's bring in general jack keane and go-to on hot topics like this. for joining us. >> glad to be here. elizabeth: you advised president trump and it was different, it wasn't in iraq, but you had reduced violence until another president came in and made another decision. the overall strategy in afghanistan has to be different, it has to be strategic. there are different factions, the taliban, isis, we talked about the network a part of it. how do you tackle this? >> when president bush asked me to talk to him about what was going on in iraq, i began with why was our strategy failing. and i began with that and provided him the facts for that, for that basis, and then began with what it would take to turn it around and in afghanistan, i would approach the problem the same way. the prison has a right to say, we've been here 16 years, why can't we solve this? this is the united states of america, we should know how to do this and here is the facts. the united states government, the fact is, began and continued to never provide the political will and the c

something jack keane says president obama never did. how do you think president trump is doing in his fight against isis? >> i think we are making tremendous gains on the ground in syria and iraq. what we have to do and haven't done is how do we fight the battle of the ideas. we are not doing enough in countering violent extremes on the net. we are not taking down enough websites and twitter accounts. we have gotten more cooperation than we ever have on social media. but we haven't put together a comprehensive strategy to take down these websites and the youtube figures. al-awlaki we took down with a drone attack, his videos are still being used to radicalize youth not just in europe, but even within the united states. we have to do a much better job. lisa: is taking down these websites, is that enough to combat these ideologies? they keep spreading up and share the same ideology. is that enough? >> no, it's not enough. it's something we have been trying to deal "since the post 9/11 era. a dozen or so young men in a large and complex te

david: for more on venezuela and and other global hot spots we are joined by former general jack keane. what would justify military action in venezuela? >> i can't see any military action unless they started to take extreme measures against their own people or against a neighboring country. but i think what everyone is so concerned about is maduro is becoming one of the world's top dictators. he's rewriting the constitution to give himself ultimate power. that takes away the vote from the people themselves. so there are two alternatives if he's a completely unacceptable leader and the people are economically strangled. they take the armed insurrection themselves. and that's called insurgencies. we are quite familiar with that. and the other is his military. we are not going to advocate either one of those things as part of u.s. foreign policy. but either one of those things are on the horizon to begin with. >> the vice president of venezuela, he is of syrian descent. he's in charge of giving people passports and apparently he's giving as ports to terrorists. would that justify military

general jack keane is a fox news military analyst. good morning, general. is a really tough round of sanctions. it was important we got china and russia. a unanimous vote here. everybody acknowledges that sanctions have not worked in the past. will they this time? >> i don't think we know for sure. the problem we've had in the past. first of all they have never been as comprehensive as this but the enforcers of the sanctions, the countries committing to sanction north korea have never vigorously enforced those sanctions and particularly china. so that still remains a question mark here. this financial loss for them in enforcing these sanctions and china could be gaming us to a certain degree here just to avoid what was about to be sanctions on themselves from the united states. so that's an open question, shannon. the trump administration and all of us want to believe that there is a genuine commitment to vigorously enforce these sanctions because the clock is ticking here. time is now an enemy as much as north korea's behavior is. that's a reality we have
