joining me is retired general jack keane. he's a fox business senior strategic analyst. ane, is this wise move, the prompt of troops from iraq to afghanistan? >> we are leaving troops in iraq. the president trump team is not making the mistake the president obama made which was to pull all our troops out after the bush surge that defeated al qaeda. what we got in return was isis and iranian domination of iraq. they will stay in iraq to push back on iranian influence and achieve political unity. some troops are going from iraq to afghanistan. the pentagon didn't release those numbers. i suspect they are not significant. what is significant in afghanistan is there is an increased presence of u.s. forces, now 14,000. they have better rules of engagement. they have more lethal capability in terms of helicopters and attack aircraft. and they are able to put their advisors down at the fighting level which was not the case in the past. this will enable to us make some progress against the taliban, david. david: yet you see these awvment terror strikes. civilians are softer targe

jack keane retired four-star general fox news analyst joins us now. good to see you.ou know, we had as many as 100,000 troops at one point on the ground in afghanistan until president obama pulled them out. what do you think about the new smaller deployment? can it achieve success? >> well, i totally agree with the major strategic decision the trump team has made to commit ourselves to afghanistan indefinitely. that was something certainly that president obama never did, never put in the right resources and pulled those resources out quite prematurely. i think there are some elements here to make progress. the additional troops to be sure, the relaxed rules of engagement, bringing over helicopters and strike aircraft to be more effective against the taliban. also permitting our advisors to be right down at the fighting level will clearly make a difference. all that said, all of that by itself will not be decisive in having a favorable outcome unless we do one other thing and the one other thing is we have to shut down the afghan-taliban sanctuaries in pakistan. that t

. >> jon: general jack keane has been on this program suggesting he advocates a total naval blockaderth korea. what do you think about that? >> well, i think that the united states military, as general mattis has stated several times, has a spectrum of options, of which a blockade is one. but all of the particular tactical or operational level actions really need to be based on the circumstances of the time which gets us back to the issue of discussions and diplomacy. the one thing i would caution is we've got to be careful in terms of listening to what the north koreans have to say. they may, in fact, just be using this as an overtour to buy time to build up the capability and capacity of their nuclear force. jon, i think it's important for your audience to remember since 1994 the north koreans have promised in writing and verbally to denuclearize over 20 times. the only thing they pay attention to a hard power and that's what the administration is backing up its discussions with. >> jon: a lot of broken promises on the peninsula. >> yes, sir. >> jon: thanks for being our guest toda
