>> there's a lot of affection on the part of the delegates and governor reagan for jack kemp and that comes through in all the people i talked to in all of the material that i went through. there were probably the biggest thing that kept kemp off the ticket with reagan is that the aides felt like it would be too much to ask the american people to swallow a ticket of a former movie actor and pro football player. it might have been too much to ask the american people in 1980 and that's probably as much as anything because really the delegates, the vast majority but a great number of the delegates really wanted jack kemp and of course and riggins's preference was paul laxalt. they wanted paul axel but it didn't make sense, very wonderful guy, dear friend, he was concerned nv, had three electoral votes and reagan was going to. anyway so it wasn't like it added anything to the ticket. >> at this point any questions from the folks in the studio audience. many of you remember jack kempe with that time was it very dynamic very aggressive protects congressmancamp came back from a speech he had made in puerto rico in mid winter and he was down there and he said this woman came running up to him and she said congressman camp, congressman camp. like all of us who have been in public life he kind of liked the attention. do you really serve in the house? do you know bob walker? [laughter] so we came back and got t-shirts made up the said i know bob walker. [laughter] now, here's the point. you know the president was actually write in 2008, when on eight different occasions he promised that conference committees would meet on c-span. and this is a totally new standard but it is unfortunate this year they have been kept that promise but he has a chance to go back and hopefully one of the lessons he may have learned from recent events is it will be good to think about it in here is the attention you got. you can read it, if you read the fascinating book, the powers that be about the media which is a chapter on white sam raeburn did not want televi
