jack russell terrier. >> this morning former police officer alex taylor pleaded guilty to a felony account after beating and choking his girlfriend's puppy back in february. girlfriend's live-in reported he killed 57-month-old jack russell terrier. the former officer sent his girlfriend a picture of the dog after he hit it in the head with a mop until it broke and then strangled him for soiling the carpet and later put him in a shoe box and buried him in a shallow grave. this morning after appearing in court he said get his affairs in order because he will likely face jail time. >> animal abuse will not be tolerated. pets are like members of the family. you can't abuse or neglect animals. you can't treat them cruel live and certainly can't kill them. > we reached out to taylor's attorney and said he was under a lot of stress and points the problem with the justice system when an animal's well-being is more important than a human and he could spend as little as three months behind bars but the judge made it clear he will not tolerate any form of animal cruelty. taylor's sentencing is set for october 8. ja

taylor walked out of court moments a pleading guilty. he resigned from the police department whe served more than six years. in february his girlfriend reported he had beaten and killed their 7 old jack russell terrier puppy. >> has mr. taylor expressed remorse? >> yes. obviously. all the way around. not just the charges but it was the break ouch a relationship that meant a fwoit him. >> he texted her saying i almost killed rocco. well i want to. paraphrasing he made a mess all over the carpet after i let him outside. taylor then sent avenilla a pho of rocco lifeless on the carpet. told her that he was pretty much dead and he was going throw him out. avilla asked if this was a sick joke. she found the dog's body on the balcony. and thenoti police. >> he admitted he used a mop to remove rocco from behind the dryer then choked the dog. the cause of death is blunt force trauma. >> ts arated animal cruelty and a felony. it's very serious. >> reporter: al taylor remains free on bond until he is sentenced here in court on october 8th. but as fi offender and former cop will he really get jail time? and if so, how much. tonight your fi indication of the punishment for this crime of animal cr
