"havana hardball" specifically focus on on the 1946-47 cuban winter league season is still considered the greatest leaking issue. that dated back to 1870 just after the russian after the match -- the national league and attorney. that particular year the championship was decided by a three-game series in februar february 1947 between -- the eternal rivals. they been in the league since its formation. at the conclusion of that three-game series, havana erupted into an epic celebration that spread across cuba. as a final games played out what also happened was the brooklyn dodgers

let's go back to jacky rowland, our correspondent.ackie, it looks as show we could be facing multiple acts of violence around paris tonight, a shooting in the tens, we're looking at explosions in the north of paris stadium. and also natasha telling us about a potential hostage situation although not confirmed in the 1 area. are we talking about a vicinity of all these axe of violence taking place in an area relatively close to each other? >> relatively close to each other. they have suggested that this is an area in the in the east of paris, it's near a canal that is very popular. there are lots of clubs, bars, restaurant along there. it is a very trendy, up and coming area. a lot of alternative clubs and very popular with young people. we're talking about a restaurant and nightclub not far from each other i've seen people with blood on their faces. we're hearing reports as many as 18 people dead now. and as well as of course those reports of two explosions near the. stadium where there is a football match between france and germany.

i needed something a little more focused and because of the jackie robinson's presence the fact thatyou had this mexican league racing going on, the greatest season ever in the history all those factors coming together at the same time because that sort of made it a natural place to start and it also helps that the four managers in the cuban league at the time, they were all legends so when i talk about them as managers i was able to use that as a sort of jumping off point to tell the back story. and with the dodgers coming for spring training but also gave me the chance -- that was part of -- that happened every year there would be major-league teams coming into the brainstorming so that gave me the chance to talk about what they called the american series to hit the back story of all the times the major-league teams had come to cuba before 1947. >> speed to this is kind of a spoiler -- i'm going to ask specific questions. >> i may not answer. >> there's a story about ernest hemingway. there's quite a few cultural stories but that was certainly one of the best ones and again this di

let's join jacky rowland, who is live in paris, what is happening in the aftermath of that, jacky? >> as we heard, the operation is over, we had more details, a brief news conference by the french interior minister and the paris prosecutor. the proffer giving us more details of what happened. he said that they had received information that the main suspect was in the area. he cannot say or is not saying whether he was among the people in the apartment. according to the prosecutor, there were seven suspects in the apartment. more than the security forces expected. some were riding behind rubble. in terms of arrests and deaths, there was a young woman that blew herself up. security found a second dead body or suspect who they said was killed by projectiles and grenades. there were a further three arrests from the apartment. no identities were given of people in the apartment. they are in the process of trying to identify the body of the young woman. even after the operation was finished, there was more activity in the church behind me. security forces made a hole in the door of the c

to jacky rowland live from paris. you were on the scene very quickly after this raid started at around 060 hours gmt this morning. tell us what happened, what was happening then? >> reporter: yes. right now we understand that the main phase of the operation which targeted two buildings in st denis is over. as you mentioned, they killed three suspects during that operation. one of them was a woman. she was apparently wearing a vest packed with explosives. there are conflicting reports as to whether she detonated the vest or the police shot her. three suspects were injured and three police officers were injured in the operation. however, the indications are they're not seriously injured. so three suspects killed, three detained and three police officers injured. however, having said that that main phase of the operation appears to be over, there is still extremely heavy police presence in the city of st denise. they blocked off many roads. i am currently weaving my way through the center and i've come upon police blocks

jackie ward is in the newsroom with details on the conference. jackie? >>the climate summit is hosting 150 world leaders from 105 countries today including president obama. security has been heightened as protesters outside the conference have already had some clashes with police. some are saying the city is essentially on lockdown. before beginning negotiations on how to slow the pace of climate change president obama visited the bataclan theater where the worst of the bloodshed happened a little more than two weeks ago. he was joined by french president frangois hollande . they are working toward an agreement to lower greenhouse gas emissions in order to keep global warming from rising. if it rises scientists say the earth's population would be in danger so the national security council wants countries to find ways to reduce the -- the targets on a regular basis. 66% of americans would join an international treaty to reduce emissions in order to stop global warming. >> our generation may not even look to see the full realization of what we do here, but

jacky rowland is there. jacky, give us an idea of the number of police officers we're seeing, what kind of security officers we're seeing. the vehicles there, some are police vans and some are ambulances. >> reporter: hundreds of security forces quite simply. regular police are securing the outer cordon and then as you go further in, you get to the more hard-core police units, people like this swot teams which are known as the red here in france, also anti terror police and military as well. we've seen military troops here. in terms of the types of vehicles, it depends on the outer cores. as you go in, there are ambulances, fire engines of the literally hundreds of officers from different branches of the police and the military involved in this operation, and the cordon, the police cordon, is very wide and is being maintained with extreme vigilance which suggests that there is still something very active going on inside, but we're not getting a lot of information, if any, about what exactly that is >>> tell

jackie has been talking to police tonight and neighbors. jackie, what are you hearing? >> reporter: jim, this is a puzzling troubling incident in a neighborhood that sees very little crime of any kind. about 6:30 this evening, police got a 911 call from a man who said he had just been shot. when officers arrived at the home on clement road, they found a 49-year-old man with a gunshot wound in his abdomen. he was not alone in this house. >> the victim was there and his child was there. >> reporter: ages? >> the victim, i believe, is 47 and i believe the child is either 6 or 8. >> reporter: officers were able to get some information from the victim before he was taken into surgery. >> from what we know, there was a knock at the door. the suspects were at the front door, there seems to have been some type of conversation. at that point we don't know what happened after that. we haven't been able to talk to the victim, he's in surgery. >> reporter: crime scene anal t analysts have seized potential evidence from the home and they believe he may have had a car waiting nearby.
