jackie bensen has more tonight. jackie? >> reporter: it was a courtroom bombshell, a hint that a probe of two liquor store owners may have included violations that they bribed unnamed public officials. a large crowd of amrik and ravinder melhi's friends were held for mrs. melhi. the couple are accused of hiring people to help them sell untaxed liquor and cigarettes. $400,000 in cash was found in the couple'sresidence. during the hearing, prosecutors cited a wire tap of the melhi's home and dropped a tantalizing hint at at may be the next step in the investigation. >> the intimation is bribery, but the government has not given much. we're still very early in this case. >> i don't understanthat. >> this was amrik melhi back in 2007, the day prince george's county executive jack johnson ordered nine bars, including melhs tick-tock liquor store closed as nuisance establishments. they closed five tablishments the next day, saying the county did not provide efficient evidence. council electricity leslie johnson and jack johnson w

pat collins and jackie bensen have bn reporting on this case from the beginning. jackie tells us live from district court. jackie? >> reporter: the verdict is a major victory for police and prosecutors. nine a a half years after chandra levy disappeared a murder conviction. >> i'm glad to be here and to have followed up on what happened to my daughter no maer how hard it has been for me personally. i'm not sure it's a sense of peace, but i can fairly tl you it ain't closure. >> 24-year-old chandra levy, a federal intern, was last seen alive on may 21st, 2001. her disappearance became international news when she was linked ro mantically with former california congressman gary condit he was 53 at the time. he was qstioned extensively by police. he was the subject of intense media scrutiny, but he was never publly named as a suspect. after levy's skeletal remains were found in rock creek park in 2002, investigators began to focus on ingmar guandique, a man in jail for attacking females in the park. the case stalledor years until it was assigned to the department's col

doreen, back to you. >> jackie bensen porting. thank you, jackie. >>> prosecutors have decided to drop two more charges against the man accused ofilling chandra levy. the charges dropped against ingmar guandique today were for attempted kidnapping and attempted robbery. prosecutors say the statute of limitations ran out on the robbery charge. guandique still is facing two counts of murder. today one of his former cellmates testified. he said guandique never confessed to killing levy. that contradicts what was said by another inmate who says guandique had admitted to the murder. the jury will hear closing arguments and cod start deliberations tomorrow. >>> there were aumber of arrests made for the military shootings. there have been five shooting targeting the museum, the pentagon and two recruiting centers. it started in mid-october. the shootingsave all been linked to the same weapon. >>> a baby who was abandoned outside a church in fairfax county has a name now, but finding the child's mother is proving more difficult. john shif

jackie bensen, "news 4 today." >>> one of the officers arrested in t wide reaching criminal investigation in prince george's county will be in court today. 45-year-old will have a detention hearing this afternoon. yesterday federal prosecutors reveed videotape evidence against another officer. a judge ordered him held without bail. investigators began watching simic and an accomplice after learning officers were being paid to protect and transport illegal, untaxed cigarettes and liquor. there is an line push to get leslie johnson to resig her seat on the prince george's county council. she was elected to represent dirict six. johnson is accused of tarvering with evidence and destruction of evidence. court documents show she had nearly $80,000. she and her husband jack johnson were arrested last friday during the corruption crackdown. >>> the bid to reopen a popular d.c. night club has been shot down one month after ve of its employees were accused of beating a man to death. the district liquor board voted unanimously to keep the d.c. 9 club closed yesterday. friends and family of the man

jackie bensen in their house in mitchellville. jackie? >> reporter: o of the most shocking things about this investigation is how the fbi were able to listen to what was going on inside the home of the most powerful couple in prince george's county. prince george's county executive jack johnson arrived home from his federal court appearance in a county-ordered chauffered sedan and dukd inside a partially open garage door to get inside. he was helping leslie, who was helped inside by a member of the security deil. it comes across as panic inside the house hours before the couple were arrested. leslie calls her husband on his cell phone, which was tapped by the fbi. leslie johnson said, two women are at the door. jack johnson tells her, don't answer it. prosecutors allege that johnson directed his wife to the ster beoom to find a $100,000 check from a developer which was hidden in his underwear drawer. jack johnson says, tear up the check. lease lee jo leslie johnson says, do you want me to put it down the toilet? jack replies, yes, flush t
