jackie bensen reporting from arlington. thanks, jackie. the so-called blo bandit pleaded guilty to a series of robberies and car jackings. 26-year-old stephen jie schwab admitted to carrying out three bank robberies and stealing the vehicles used in the holdups. schwab also admitted to participating in a heroin distribution ring in manassas. police arrested her last november after a chase on the beltway. she'll be sentenced in july. >>> would you believe that after all this wonderful weather we've had noting issing there's actually a freeze warning out there for parts of the area? where and how old? >> freeze warning out to the west and that same area has a freeze watch for tomorrow night. so we're not just talking about one night of cold temperatures. we're talking about a couple of nights of cold temperatures. and that's not the end of the cold either. temperatures out there right now look at the difference. 37 in fredricksburg, 39 in martinsburg, but still 52 at the airport and 50 in annapolis. yes, we are talking about a freeze warning

jackie bensen has our report from elkridge. >> reporter: friend and neighbor cindy friar has always believed 34-year-old christine jarrett would have never willingly left her young sons. >> hopefully, her sons will know she didn't desert them. and that i think, you know, she loved them. >> reporter: and it now appears christine jarrett never did leave the tidy home on claire drive in elkridge that she shared with her husband and two little boys. last night, acting on unspecified new information, howard county police found what they believe to be her remains, encased in concrete, under the floorboards of a shed in the home's back yard. they arrested her husband, 57-year-old robert jarrett, who had been living in the home with his second wife until they separated recently. on january 5th, 1991, when he reported christine missing, he told police she'd walked away from the home after an argument and never returned, something neighbors found difficult to believe. >> it was just a feeling that something was wrong. it didn't work out. you know, she would have never left those boys. never. >> after

jackie bensen in the petworth neighborhood of northeast d.c. >> reporter: jim, it is no exaggerationsay that this neighborhood is gripped in fear tonight. the few people who are out are walking in pairs or groups, hoping to avoid whatever is going on here. there are extra police patrols on the streets of petworth and adjoining neighborhoods. police have issued an extraordinarily strong warning after three people walking in the area were randomly assaulted in a two-day period. one of them fatally injured, very possibly by the same suspect. in each case the victim was struck by a powerful blow to the head. >> we are asking that residents in the area walk in pairs or in groups when at all possible until we get some more information. >> reporter: the first incident happened tuesday, 6:00 p.m., broad daylight, in an alley near 8th and emerson streets northwest. registered nurse gary diedricks, a tourist visiting from colorado, was found beaten to death. nine hours later a short distance away a metro bus driver spotted a man in the street in the 4800 block of georgia avenue northwest. turn

jackie bensen is live on the ground there. jackie?> reporter: dorene, the 911 call came from a motorist who spotted a man in camouflage right here where the park borders good luck road. now, at that point it caused a fast response by u.s. park police. they were assisted by maryland state police officers armed with semi-automatic rifles. they set up a perimeter around the park, and they also brought in helicopters with nightvision capabilities. we can tell you it caused quite a stir at the church just across the street here. >> somebody say they have a rifle, they've got a rifle. when the police come they run out. we didn't see nothing now. but we're okay here. we just tried to get safe, and that's what we're about. reporter: we're told a tracking dog did track a path into the woods but at about that same time police received a call from a motorist on the other side of the park who said they saw a man come out of the woods and get into a car and drive away. we do not know at this point for what reason the man was in the woods and if he

reporting live in clinton i'm jackie bensen. back to you. >> all right. tragic story there. jackie, thank you. >>> now to our other top story tonight the weather, wind gusts clocking in at over 40 miles an hour today creating problems in the air and on the water. tonight we have team coverage of the dramatic rescues across our region. first up to reagan national airport. it was a shaky landing today for a united flight after the jet blew two tires as it was coming in. and the wind played a big part. news 4's jane watrel is live at the airport with reaction from passengers. jane? >> reporter: well, jim, the wind is still playing a big part out here. it's very windy out here. in fact, passengers say they were told to buckle up. that there was going to be turbulence ahead. but no one anticipated what could happen next. it was a turbulent morning at reagan national airport with plane after plane landing in winds gusting up to 35 miles an hour. united flight 1075 from houston to d.c. was no different as it approached the runway according to passengers. >> it was swaying. i mean, i

jackie bensen is there now with more. >> reporter: jim, there is a lot of outrage here. police believe that that little boy found the loaded gun in the backpack belonging to a 20-year-old man who lives in the home but is not a relative. prince george's county police detectives arrived at the home on arbutus lane in clinton with heavy hearts. they are charged with investigating what they believe was an avoidable death. officers were called here about 2:30 for a report that a 6-year-old boy had accidently shot himself with a loaded revolver. >> this didn't need to happen. it seems like it happens every year somewhere around within the washington metropolitan area. it just does not need to happen. this was an irresponsible act that caused this very unnecessary death and it's tragic and we are -- our hearts and thoughts and prayers go out to the family. >> reporter: investigators learn that the boy who is in the first grade was in the house with his great grandmother and his two sisters ages 9 and 11 at the time of the shooting. the 20-year-old who owned the backpack was not
