i'm jackie ibanez in new york. a major setback in efforts to stop the violence in the middle east.n the israel-hamas war has now expired. the deadline passed at midnight eastern time. and there's no immediate word from mediator qatar of another extension shortly after the cease fire ended, israel's military reignited its attacks on northern gaza, accusing hamas militants of violating the truce, which started a week ago. it initially lasted four days and then was extended for several days with the help of qatar and fellow mediator egypt. during the week long cease fire, hamas and other militants in gaza released more than 100 hostages. his most of them israelis, in return for 240 palestinians detained in israel. virtually all of those freed were women and children reached arching new swap agreements will likely become harder as most women and children held in gaza have already been released. recapping the temporary truce in the israel-hamas war has expired and there's no immediate word of another extension. israel s military has since resumed its attacks on northern gaza. i'm jackie
