douglas: anything that jackie kennedy had wanted done lady bird continued. they could not have been more kennedy in jackie 1964, 1965, 1966. there was a while when jackie kennedy wanted to stay away from the johnson white house and it was more robert kennedy running for president in 1968. bobby had famously said i will not decide whether i will run or not unless i get the ok from jackie. she became his political buddha. he would go to her and make sure what he was doing it made sense and that it was not going to life, and theyly both had a fatalistic view of life. jackie kennedy worried bobby was in great danger, that violence and hate was permeating the land in 1968. she warned him about that but also said you have got to go for it. thestayed very loyal to kennedy family in political terms. david: let me add one point. many people thought jackie kennedy cared about fashion, the arts, renovation, her children, which he obviously did, and people thought she was not that involved and what was going on politically or as knowledgeable in political affairs as some

of what jackie kennedy did. douglas: i agree with that and we saw that with melania trump. when the inauguration of donald trump took place, melania trump stylistiaclly was dressed like jackie kennedy. her influence on fashion, jackie kennedy is still very widely felt today, and i recently toured the walker art museum, and there is andy warhol drove -- multiple jackie kennedy's on an important wall of this art museum. the image of her, and most people do not picture it is much as being in her 60's. they picture as a young first lady in her 30's. a lot of polls will show popularity of roosevelt and dolly madison and jackie kennedy always ranked very high in a public esteem as first ladies, and all of the other first ladies wanted to meet jackie. they want to do have some of her magic in what way or another. david: one of her legacies was the kennedy center. after president kennedy died the family decided they want to do -- wanted to have a living memorial for president kennedy and the national cultural center on
