jackie kucinich. i mean, what is your mr. party. as i know, you talked to people on all sides of the aisle throughout about where things stand today because it really does feel. and this is monday morning. there may be some people who really haven't processed this if they were over the weekend, they're just kind of coming back to work, sitting down at their desks in a few hours and kind of grappling with what we're going through as a country, this is a presidential race that's been fundamentally changed. >> absolutely. i mean, we know that democratic side, you had the ads suspended, you had fundraising suspended. i think that's picking up again now, but the tone and the tenor of this race where it was very aggressive going into this weekend and it just it seems to have really petered off at this point. the question is how long this lasts, because we have seen other tragedies in this country where you do see tonally things go down i will say talking to delegates yesterday. it was very interesting there. they were coming in here very

jackie kucinich, and axios national political correspondent alex thompson jackie, let's start with you. i'm curious to get your perspective on some of this new reporting, not just what we heard from kayla, but also the new york times pointing to advisers, figuring out how to approach joe biden on the question of potentially stepping aside from the top of the ticket and further, the biden campaign apparently testing kamala harris's numbers against donald trump. what do you think i think that last name is what this is all about? >> is is about defeating former president trump. and that is why you're hearing democrats coming out. that's why you are hearing all the hand-wringing behind the scenes from anonymous sources. i've talked to several people over the last couple of days. you are democrats who are truly worried about how this is being handled and how they are going to go forward. but the matter of fact is this is joe biden's decision. it always has been and what you're hearing from members like nancy pelosi, for example, saying, oh, it's his decision, he's actually already said what

cnn's jeff zeleny, the boston globe's jackie kucinich, and zolan and it kinda young's and carl hulse of the new york times. hello everybody. i want to get to kamala harris in a minute, but let's start with president biden. and this announcement that he is going to give that what will very soon be an icon, another iconic and unusual address from the oval office. what are you hearing from your sources about the kinds of themes that we expect him to hit on. >> look, history has already to joe biden, presidential campaign exit speeches in the works, but this will be one like any other. i mean, at 88 obviously left the race and 08 he left the race, but he's already in the oval office so this is an emotional time for him. i'm told, but some aides we were talking to pointed to his remarks yesterday when he called into the harris campaign headquarters and he he sounded quite upbeat. but this is going to be a couple of things. one, finishing the job in the oval office, focusing directly on his foreign affairs agenda, which of course is very important this week that critical meeting with the p

and jackie kucinich, cnn political analyst and washington bureau chief for the boston globe, fig you all for being with us lee. what do you make of these comments from j.d. vance to the today show him to be out of step with trump and the base or actually right in line with it? >> i think it's an unfortunate reality that this is pretty pretty representative of the party at large at this moment. now, i think there's going be a lot of republican women who are going to be really angry that these comments are being replayed. i think there's a lot i've seen a lot on social media, but i think we're republicans quite a few of them are going to have buyer's remorse at the j.d. vance pick in this moment. now, how's he going respond to that? i'm not exactly i'm not exactly sure the question is, was he ever meant to go after the demographic that he's trying to pull from? i don't think that's ever a pick that was based on addition, i think it was about doubling down on his base so perhaps this will galvanize more folks, but i think it's a really, really risky strategy and i think it's going to al

that that information would be coming out in the next few hours here with me in milwaukee as jackie kucinich and david polyansky so jackie, we're expecting this to happen soon. i want to add one more piece of information here for the tea leaves for us to read we do know that the ohio senator jd vance, he's was at his home, but he left his home in a three-car motorcade this morning. we have two others who have been told to be on the shortlist. doug burgum, senator marco rocker, ruby of they're both expected to be here in milwaukee. they have speaking gigs this week at the rnc. so where do you think this leaves us? >> i've learned and i'm sure you have to covering trump all these years, you'd never guess. you never guess what? he's going to do. however, i mean, it really does seem it has narrowed down to these three men and they all have different assets that can be add to a trump ticket. but i think one of the things that remains true even after saturday trump doesn't really this, this vp will be a, an asset to trump. and that is how do i say this? it just it's not he doesn't need to have ohi
