tribute to you but it really is a success and a tribute to the heroic cooperation really of alex and jackie libbydid you this when you were 12 years old. jackie, you permitted the filming. tell me about your motivation in permitting lee to do this document tritt about your son and other children. >> well, we were very worried about alex for a long time. and this seemed like a great opportunity to get a window into his world. so we could maybe see why you he had become so disengaged from life. he didn't want to hang out with friends. he didn't engage with the family anymore. we needed to know why that was happening. >> and alex, life has gotten a lot better. we saw you i think a week or two ago at the premiere for the documentary. how do you feel about it now in seeing what you've managed to accomplish? >> i feel -- well, i feel happy that i'm able to come out here and actually teach others how to make a difference and make a difference myself. one thing i can teach people is to -- is to stand up for themselves and get people involved to try to stop bullying. that's one mistake that i made that i

libby only two years ago. this morning alex is joining me along with his parents, jackie and philip libby. us this morning is cynthia lowen. she's a producer on the film. welcome to all of you this morning. alex, i'd like to start with you. it's been two years since that clip we saw actually took place. what is it like for you to watch that? >> well, it just makes me think back to a time where kids were ignora ignorant, and like, back then, i was just stupid and took it. >> i'm sure it was a painful time. just tell me how things are for you at school now. >> a lot better. i've gotten lots of friends and working on keeping my grades up. so great so far. >> jackie, you didn't know that your son alex was being bullied at school, and in many cases, parents don't know. looking back, were there signs? were there behavioral issues or anything like that? >> there were, but there had been for quite some time, and we thought it was -- he was becoming a preteen, and we just didn't know any better. >> let's bring in cynthia lowen. she's a writer and producer on the bully film, as i mentioned. let's ta

. >> here with us, is filmmaker, lee hirsch, along with alex libby, and his mother, jackie, who are featurede relentless bullying that alex experienced. and david long, whose son took his own life after experiencing harsh bullying. welcome to all of you. i saw this documentary. and there was so much attention on its rating. and in my opinion, not enough attention on its content. i thought it was so moving and powerful, lee. what prompted you to take this on? >> i was bullied as a kid. and you carry those memories. and i think when you -- as a filmmaker, when you're at your best, you have a story that you can connect to. you can really tell from the heart. and that's what this was. i wanted to give a voice to that experience. it's so hard. people talk about bullying. and you hear kids will be kids. a lot of people felt like they didn't have the agency to talk about those experiences. so, this film was about giving people that voice. >> many upsetting lines in the movie is about you, alex. lee captured you getting bruised, punched, choked, stabbed by a pencil. really abused by other kids. and
