. >> seeing him talking to jackie speier -- congresswomen jackie speier -- here is -- is really instrumentaln leading this fight, but you're in the trenches. you're -- you're living this. what do we do? >> [ sighing ] what do we do? well, um, we keep the conversation going... by sharing with people about the topic. a lot of people still don't realize that this occurs in the military. >> they don't want to believe it. >> they don't want to believe it. they're shocked. they're still making it a gender issue. they're still making it an issue of sexual preference. they're not realizing that this is about a human-rights issue, and it's not about male. it's not about female. and so, what we're trying to do is educate people, educate the civilian world, as well, because when a rapist leaves the military, they go back into the civilian population, and then the heinous crimes continue. so, the main thing is to -- >> so, why now? is that because the outside world, it doesn't prosecute. right now, it's prosecuted in the military, right? >> no, it's not. that's the problem. the problem is, you see there

starting on my far left is josh conley, who is chief of staff for representative jackie speier. to his right is terry o'neill, who is president of the national organization of women. for women, excuse me. to her right is mark icorn. tiffany davis, who is head of global security at facebook and she also worked for the state attorney general. i'm going to be asking for some views on some of that work, as well. finally to my left, terry goldberg, founder of a law firm specializing in internet abuse. so thanks to all of you for being here. let's just start off, terry, you've been working with a lot of the victims that this law is intended for. can you talk about what you're seeing in your practice, what are the experiences that you're seeing with your victims, and the challenges that they have today. >> sure. so i'm basically the lawyer that i needed when i was under attack by a malicious ex. so i started my law firm focusing on online and offline sexual violence, because i couldn't find a lawyer and i was in family court and being told by a judge when i asked for an order of protec

and thank you to representative jackie speier for bringing this legislation forward. and thank you so much. and because yet this is another tool that domestic violence abusers can and do use, to stop women from leaving. right. there is an intimate photograph or intimate video taken, she doesn't think it will be shared with anyone because she trusts him, because she is in love with him and yet when she decides to leave, he holds this out and says, if you leave me, i will expose this to the world. it is absolutely a tool of intimidation that is available in domestic violence. it is also a tool of intimidation in the workplace. quite frankly. and think in terms of -- for example modeling agencies or dare i say it, beauty pageant contestants. there are girls as young as 14 years old that come to work for modeling agencies and you could imagine that it is entirely possible for -- for photographs to be taken of these girls, they are lied to about what will be done with the photographs and then that material is utilized to control them. it is a common tactic in sex trafficki
