jackie claims she was raped. the education reporter at "the washington post" and irin has been following this closely for msnbc. taylorge, is the story, the fundamental account that jackie told are the rolling stone," how much of is that has been verified, in your reporting? >> we've reported so far the fraternity says there was not a party on the weekend of september 28, 2012. in addition, no members of the fraternity were employed at the aquatic fitness center at time the alleged occurred. >> have you been able to independently verify those two things occur? can you confirm there was no party and confirm their members were employed by that facility. >> the fraternity provided the first two accounts, the details of that. of course, we're looking to confirm all details. >> irin, therein lies the details. you could have a party at the frat and not written down to be independently verified. so this remains a story where every detail is subject -- >> my understanding is the washington post did reach out to another person who jackie named and that that person belonged to a different fraternity. i would love to hear from t

taylor got to meet jackie, got to interview jackie several times.o take that story and find out as much as we could about every lmt of it. was there a party that night? what happened at that house? who was involved. where they were now. could we find them. could we talk to them. that's what led to our story today. >> there are some denials saying they didn't host a party that night, which doesn necessarily mean that there wasn't a party at that house that night. i just want to be clear what has been established independently. >> houses have to register parties. something like a day party or an organized event would have been that kind of thing. we learned that there was a date party at sometime earlier that actually would have been quite distinguishable wearing the clothing that was described as the out fit that she was wearing. that party would have been quite noticeable. the fact that in reaching out to all of these fraternity members and to people close to jackie, and learning, essentially, that there wasn't a party or if there was, it certainly

taylor, thank you for being here. i want to turn to sandra menendez, a student at uva. she knows jackie and she interns at the university's women's center. and jackie -- sondra, i was hoping to speak with you because you were interviewed by "the rolling stone" reporter. tell me what that experience was like and how you came away feeling after being interviewed. >> yeah. so i was interviewed for "the rolling stone" article for my work through the university of virginia women's center and as my role as a peer advocate for justice for victims of sexual assault and domestic violence. i left that article feeling a little bit uncomfortable. i know that a lot of other peer advocates who were interviewed for the article also felt really uncomfortable after being interviewed and we don't really know if it was the degree of the questions that were being asked because this is such a difficult topic and such a painful topic to talk about or if it was the way certain questions were being presented. >> you told me off air you felt she had an agenda. what was the agenda you thought she was pushing? >>

jackie. they are telling the "washington post" their memories of the night in question differ from how "rolling stone" portrayed the incident. joining us "washington post" reporter taylord shapiro. tell me what you've learned. >> we learned tonight in the interviews i had with the the three students, their recollections of that evening are inconsistent in what was portrayed in rolling stone. for instance, they told me that in the immediate aftermath of the alleged attack, they tried to get help for jackie and even sought out to speak with the police. >> does that suggest that something did happen but just that the version is incorrect? i mean, it could very well be that "rolling stone" journalist was shoddy journalism and something really did happen. >> they told me that when they found her that night that she was bawling, in absolute tears, hysterical. one of them told me they'd never seen anybody behave like that ever before in their life and they never wanted to see it again. they felt at that moment that she had been traumatized by something, something horrific. that is why they felt it was entirely necessary for them to seek out the authorities. >> what did they s

is taylor reed schapiro, "the washington post" reporter who first uncovered many of these contradictions. welcome. you talked to three of the friends who were now on the record who were with jackie that night. she says she got from her the name of the guy she was dating who brought her to the party where she says she was attacked by him and some of his friends. they even were texted a picture of this guy. what did you find? >> the name of the person in the picture is not the same as the person that she has identified as her date. in fact, he was an entirely different person that she had known since high school. when i spoke with him, he says he did know jackie, but they didn't have very many interactions together and in fact they hadn't even sat at the same lunch table. >> and what about the name of the guy she originally told this group of friends who lured her into this sexual attack? >> that name is a different name that she later gave to friends in the recent days of her attacker. >> and you got in touch with in new name, this other fellow? >> the second person, correct. >> what did you find there? >> he said he had never met jackie in person, but that he was a lifeguard at
