jackie ward is joining us live now from san francisco with the latest on the conditions there. jackie. >> reporter: we are in the northern part of the mission at 17th and folsom where one of the top three areas that are most prone to flooding is. that's exactly why this business has a lot of sandbags out getting ready for what's to come. this area is about to undergo this huge renovation project right now the city of san francisco sewer and storm water all collected into the same system. so the city is going to spend about $200 million over the next five years on a project that will put a 3500-foot tunnel that's 12 feet wide underground here because like i said, this is the lowest lying part of the city. it's the most prone to flooding. so that's why the san francisco public utilities commission wants to make sure you keep the storm drains clear. this one looks good but there are 25,000 in the city and when they clog the streets flood. already from 280 northbound this morning there was hydroplaning and a lot of ponding and puddling going on. so you need to make sure that you tak

kpix 5's jackie ward is live at the toll plaza with more details. jackie. >>> reporter: yeah, michelle. the board knows it needs to keep up with the times and technology, but at the same time, it doesn't want to create some monstrosity that takes away from the charm of the iconic landmark. so it's considering a few different options. and as of right now, the project would not get rid of the toll plaza as we know it right now. they would put in a new gantry that would be in the southbound lanes stretching over 101. the toll collecting system that's currently in place was installed back in 2005 and it just can't support the improved technology that has developed over the last 13 years. so here's some pictures of the options the board will be looking at today. a gantry is that overhead structure you see that can support various equipment like cameras and lights. there are three architectural styles that the board is focusing on. the cable style would reflect the iconic cables of the bridge. there's the tollbooth style that incorporates features of the t

kpix 5 reporter jackie ward was there and has the latest. >> reporter: hours after entering the united states an alleged russian hacker faces a judge for the first time. he was in prison in pga until yesterday. nikulin is being charged for various things including computer intrusion, conspiracy and aggravated identity theft. he pled not guilty to all counts. during the proceeding nikulin wore a gray sweatsuit and wouldn't speak to the judge when asked his name and age exercising his right to remain silent. he was given an attorney and interpreter. he allegedly compromised the information of 117 million linkedin passwords. four years later in 2016, a grand jury here in california charged him with computer intrusion and aggravated identity theft. since linkedin and other comps are all based in the bay area but shortly after that russia also sought extradition for other charges. if convicted, he faces up to 50 years in prison and $2 million in fines. in a statement, fbi special agent in charge john bennett said: >> reporter: he will be back in court on wednesday for a detention hearing. i

kpix 5's jackie ward is live in san francisco. this is his second arrest this month. >> reporter: yeah, exactly. the former 49er and raider is back in police custody this morning for breaking a restraining order following a domestic dispute that happened this month on march 3rd. we have a picture of him when he was first booked for his first arrest just a few weeks ago. before today, he had been free on bail after pleading not guilty earlier this month to a slew of charges including domestic violence and assault. around 8:30 p.m. on march 3rd police responded to a call for domestic violence incident on hill. by the time they got there, smith had already left. a warrant was issued for his arrest and he turned himself in. the raiders released smith after that first arrest a few weeks ago but he hasn't played a down since 2015. he was suspended from the nfl indefinitely for violating its substance abuse and personal conduct policies. a warrant was recently issued yet again for smith's arrest and police worked with his lawyer to arran

as kpix 5's jackie ward reports, that shootout injured five other people. jackie. >>> reporter: it started around 4:30 yesterday afternoon outside the amazon barbershop near the corner of geneva and london. police were called to the area for reports of a man with a gun. investigators say when officers arrived, the suspect fled to the nearby barbershop. police say after officers entered the shop, the suspect started shooting. this is video of the injured officer being dragged to safety by another police officer. many others had their guns drawn as they circled the area. then things escalated when police exchanged gunfire with several people inside the local business. the officer hit is at san francisco general in fair condition. san francisco mayor mark farrell reacted to the police shooting last night. >> he is considered about as good a spirits as one might imagine. he had a serious injury so as good as can be expected. >> reporter: police said the man with the gun and the other person involved are being treated for life-threatening injuries. san francisco

jackie ward has more. >>> reporter: this would be something because it means president trump would have to testify under oath and tell a judge what he knew about the agreement between himself and the adult film star. daniels' attorney michael avenatti requested a deposition from both the president and his personal attorney michael cohen. cohen said he is the one who paid daniels $130,000 of his own money without president trump's knowledge. of course, now cohen has a lawyer of his own david swartz who insists daniels was paid for reasons other than this issue. >> mr. cohen paid the $130,000 but the reason is to protect business, protect reputation, and to protect family. >> reporter: the timing of the payment only 11 days before the election is what is raising red flags as a possible violation of federal campaign law. the last president deposed was president bill clinton. >> do we know anything more about michael cohen? >> we hear a little bit. he is a jack of all trades of sorts known to make unpleasant situations go away. he doesn't shy away from using aggressive tactics to do that. >

kpix 5's jackie ward is in the studio right now with more. we're going to go to her right now. >>> reporter: it started around 4:30 yesterday afternoon outside the amazon barbershop near the corner of geneva and london. police were called to the area for reports of a man with a gun. investigators say when officers arrived, the suspect fled to the nearby barbershop. police say after officers entered the shop, the suspect started shooting. this is video of the injured officer being dragged to safety by another police officer. many others had their guns drawn as they circled the area. then things escalated when police exchanged gunfire with several people inside the local business. the officer hit is at san francisco general in fair condition. san francisco mayor mark farrell reacted to the police shooting last night. >> he is considered about as good a spirits as one might imagine. he had a serious injury so as good as can be expected. >> reporter: police said the man with the gun and the other person involved are being treated for life-threate
