we are inside the department of homeland security here in jacksonville, florida. an interesting situation. a lot of developments here today mario hernandez actually today came here thinking he was going to be turned into a natural citizen, an american citizen. the case was that he went into his hearing. it turns out that they said that that was not going to occur actually today. he needed jurisdiction from a federal judge in tallahassee, and they had until july 4th to do that. mario, you were upset earlier, but in a turn of events in the past half hour, what happened? >> i was very upset. i thought it was going to be like two months back. that things would happen, but they never did. my attorney, others made several calls to help us guess jurisdiction. why would i come here to do my testing and everything else, and i have to go to tallahassee to be sworn in. >> but today you will become an official united states citizen even though you are a war veteran. you've worked for the government, and you've been in the u.s. for 50 years. what is your feeling on this? >> my

he got a rude wake-up call decades later, and robert ray is in jacksonville, florida. what's the latest on this man? >> reporter: good morning, del. earlier in morning in the 8:00 hour, i told you he was heading into the u.s. department of homeland security here for a hearing where they would decide whether or not he could have a path to naturalization. that hearing began at 10:00 a.m. al jazeera america, myself, and came cameraman derek devoski were inside there. we were the only crew that spoke with mario hernandez where he told us that he and his wife were very nervous as they were about to enter the hearing room. he told us that the last time he was here he was, quote, treated like dirt. this time a different story. he's being rolled out the red carpet. we had a report earlier from the united states citizenship and immigration services. they told us that they thought that everything would go smoothly. they felt badly about the situation, and they were working to rectify it. so at our best guess there has not been an official ruling yet, but based upon what we know
