jackie nespral nbc 6 news. >> jackie, thank you. >>> a new case of the zika virus has popped up in the united states. an arkansas resident who recently traveled out of the country has tested positive for the mosquito-born virus. it's a relatively new disease for the western hemisphere first appearing in brazil in may of last year. the most common symptoms are fever, rash, joint pain, and red itchy eyes. pregnant women are most at risk for complications. serious birth defects have been reported in children born to children who were infected with this virus. >>> a texas %lementary teacher hasaseen fired for allegedly coving the mouths of her students with duct tape. they were told it was a game. tape was put on so they would be good. the teacher took the duct tape off whenever they went to the bathroom or a hallway. school officials notifiedd parents through a questionnaire they sent home. juvenile detectitis and child protective services are investigating to see if any criminal charges are warranted. >> disturbing incident, no way indicative of the behavior that we expect out of teacher

good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jackie and terence. we're on mayfield road where there are a lot of businesses. plows are working to clear the parking lots here behind me. covered. as you can see there's a good pile behind me. so it shows that the know is accumulating. it's not just blowing around but it is very brutal out here. if you're still inside and haven't glanced at your car in the driveway, i want to show what you it might look like. we have footage from a car dealership where you can see inches of snow on the cars. that was taken a coup of hours ago so it might be even worse now. you might want to give yourself a coup extra minutes to scrape all of that off. take it slow if you're on the roads, not just the side roads but the interstates. we saw a car spun out on 271 and 90 early this morning. crews in addition to clearing the parking lots they're also working hard to clear the roads. dozens of odot drivers and private plows are across several counties. odot is using calcium chloride to prevent freezing. several cities have p

jackie bentssen has seen it alln the national mall where the snowplows have working now. jackie? >> reporter: you're making me smile. this has been a day of beautiful images. look at the dome of the nation's capitol lit up at night in this snow. an image we don't see very often. and even if you do, it's just beautiful. we have some pictures from earlier today of what it looked like here on the national mall. we saw a man cross country skiing through this vast expanse of whiteness and just something that you don't get a chance to see in this busy town very often. we also have the joy of seeing some children from the uthern part of china and some of them had never seen snow before. their tour bus was stuck in town. they're not going to be able to get out and so they let them on the mall and they ran around and saw snow for the first time. that was very exciting. but right now things are, as doug said, changing here. i tell you, i know what sleet is. it's definitely sleeting. the stuff that's coming down right now is 75% sleet at least. so things changing, getting colder right now o
