i want to thank barbara comstock and jackie spear for offering this resolution. this is an important step and one step. the committee of house administration is going to review all of our policies and procedures. one week from today, the committee will be holding its next hearing. the focus of this hearing is to examine the settlement process and reforms that may be needed. as speaker, i want to say something about this. this needs to be a workplace where everyone feels respected. woman should have to endure harassment in any form let alone here in congress. second, i'm inviting president trump to address the joint session of congress on tuesday, january 30. this will be a good opportunity for the country to hear directly from the president on the progress we made and the work that needs to be done and we look forward to him accepting our invitation. on tax reform, i want to make sure you saw this letter. this letter from 137 economists across the spectrum that we received yesterday. i want to read two sentences. the question isn't whether we are hurt by our corp

>> i don't know jackie spears, the member she mentioned, so she has not told and i don't know if sheust knows the investigation or the members. i d not know. in the case of the incident i e relied, i had a friend who knew we were having the hearing, my friend told me about the victim that he knew that i described this situation. so i was using it to make the point that this is present. this was somebody about somebody who is a member right now. i don't know the member. i don't know the victim. i have told my friend who relayed the story that i would you know, if the victimed to come forward and talk to me, anything we can do or just provide us some guidance. i called the woman who 30 years ago was the first woman to have a successful sexual harassment soon. dorena bertussi. she came forward 30 years ago when she was a 34-year-old staffer to go up against a very powerful then california democratic congressman, jim bates, who denied it. i could still hear that pain in her voice 30 years later. and i know from other people who i've had those discussions with what a painful topic it is.
