last friday morning, jacob pickett was attempting to arrest a person who had an outstanding warrant. as is so common one department helped other another and deputy pickett joined police officers in pursuit and during that pursuit he was fatally shot. tragically he will never return home to his loved ones, leaving behind a wife and two very young children. and his beloved k nine partner. last time a boone county officer was killed in the line of duty was over 80 years ago. he also served as a tipton county sheriff's department deputy and served in the marion county jail. all counties i represent in the fifth district of indiana. he's led the bloon county -- boone county sheriff's department canine team for the last 10 years and worked with rick around the clock. he known as a good guy all around who was kind and compassionate. he dedicated his life to serving others and continues to do so even now as an organ donor. as the sheriff said that thin blue line was crossed and i offer my deepest condolences to his family, to the boone county sheriff's department and their friends, the men an

i rise today to honor a hoosier hero who paid the ultimate sacrifice, deputy jacob pickett of the boone county sheriff's office was killed in the line of duty on march 2, 2018. jacob was a five-year veteran in law enforcement and served as the leader in the department's k-9 unit he held the ranking of sheriff deputy in boone county, one of indiana's finest, jacob is a hero and acted selflessly on the day that took an unexpected and fatal turn. but he died doing what he was trained to do. protecting the thin blue line and keeping the community he loved safe from harm's grasp. and he did that that day. boone county citizens and all hoosiers mourn the loss of jacob who was known as a man of integrity and compassion he leaves behind his wife, jennifer two young children, and his canine partner brick to carry on his legacy of service to fellow hoosiers. his sacrifice will never be forgotten. as the gospel of matthew says, quote, blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of god. rest in peace, deputy pickett. i yield back. the speaker pro tempore: the gentleman yields back
