>> jacqueline howard, thank you so much for that. i want to talk about the study with a doctor that's a primary care physician, public health specialist. dr. matthew, great to see you. this is a study that says that as of september 21st, only 49% of u.s. residents reported that they always wore a mask in public. do you see that that's something that could change for the better so lives can be spared or do you think that's about where it is going to be for the future? >> brianna, i want to be optimistic. i am a primary care physician, the gate keeper, first point of contact when patients come in with covid. i'm telling you, there's still a lot of people out there that believe this is a hoax. i don't know of anybody that had covid, why should i wear a mask. we just look at the studies. if we look at other countries, look at south korea, brianna, we have the first case on the first day back in january of both u.s. and south korea. now they have 444 deaths and we have over 220,000 deaths. look at the number of cases total in japan, a mas

jacqueline howard is our cnn health reporter. take us through this. the three medicines he is taking and their side effects. >> brianna, we know that the president has been given an aggressive treatment plan. he has access to medications that most covid-19 patients wouldn't necessarily be treated with. here's a list of the three main medications that we have been told the president has received. it includes the antiviral drug remdesivir, the investigational antibody cocktail, monoclonal cocktail by rejgeneron, and dexamethasone. regarding side effects of the drugs, we know with remdesivir, it is administered through iv. we know the president is on a five day course of that medication. side effects of it can include pain at the injection site and nausea. we know that with remdesivir -- with dexamethasone, it is to target inflammation. we know the side effects here, the court costeroid commonly used for many things, along with side effects it can cause includes mood swings. that's important to keep in mind with dexamethasone as far as side effects. with

cnn health reporter jacqueline howard is following the story. at these studies are finding about blood type, jacqueline. >> yeah, brianna, this is some new and emerging research that's kind of adding to our understanding of the link between -- a possible link, i should say, between your blood type and covid-19 risk. here's what the studies found. in the first study when it comes to success sepsceptability, 38. tested positive for covid-19 were blood type o, and 42% made up the population in the study. and of incredibly ill covid-19 patients in canada, 84% of those patients are blood types a or ab. excuse me, 84% of those with blood types a or ab needed mechanical ventilation, where 61% of blood types o or b did. also in that study, brianna, patients with blood types a or ab were in the icu for about four days longer than those with blood types o or b. so you see there is a connection there, but more research is needed to really take a deep look at what this connection could really mean for us. back to you, brianna. >> so interesting, definitely l
