let's go right to jacqui jeras who is tracking bill in the weather center. jacqui?about 350 miles away. those impacts are being felt here in the u.s. coastline. take a look what's happening now. you can see the outer bands approaching the u.s. coastline, will really watch these waves continue to kick up as we head through the afternoon and evening hours. the winds right now, you know, where the real strong ones are, close torte center of the storm. so we're not feeling much other than a breeze for today, but as we head into late this evening and overnight tonight, we'll watch that bill make that close approach to the cape, we think that's going to happen for the most part during the hours that a you're going to be sleeping. landsfaul possible here yet over nova scotia and that will happen mid to late morning tomorrow, this storm look weakening and will be a category 1 at that time but still plenty of problems especially with those high surfs and strong winds. we are going to feel those across parts of cape. there you can see a look over nags head, north carolina, wh

can still determine the cause of the accident, and that's what we're here to do. >> our very own jacqui jerasas been doing some investigating on this story and jacqui's going to take us through the flight path of both of these aircraft and also, jacqui, we heard from investigators really two feet of visibility. you're going to take us below to the hudson river. >> incredible pictures. this is from google earth, flightwise.com. the typer aircraft, the plane that was flying had what we call flight following on it so it was able to be detected by radar. you can see the flight path as it started out. it came into the radar in new jersey and then it flew on a northerly track. it flew up here into the teterboro area. that's where we know it did take a stop and picked up a passenger. it spent a half hour here. then it took off again. you can see it moved easterly heading towards the hudson river. there you can see the point we started losing radar contact and it was over in here, of course, just outside of hoboken, where the actual crash occurred with the helicopter. now, let's go ahead and take a l

more on the storm from jacqui jeras in the severe weather center. talking about ana, bill, now this is the focus. >> yeah, claudette, focused because it is aimed right for the florida panhandle. as you mentioned this is a tropical storm this developed in the overnight hours, tropical depression it has been strengthening since that time and will continue to do so until it makes landfall. maximum sustained winds at 50 miles per hour and it is you know, less than 40 miles away from the coast right now. i want to go ahead and show you some of the rain bands because we have been seeing that already pushing into the area, very heavy at times, over toward apalachicola, the tallahassee area. occasional occasionally, been seeing the thunderstorms wrapping around with the outer bands, tampa bay also into the orlando area. we could see anywhere between three to five inches of rainfall along with those gusty winds. this is going to be enough to cause some localized flooding. in addition, we could even see some power outages. i want to show you a couple of the w

jacqui jeras, our meteorologist, keeping a close eye on the weather conditions there. you look at pictures. looks like a beautiful day. a lot of folks were out walking. we heard that from the eyewitnesses and a beautiful day to be flying. how about the wind conditions? >> wind were fine. overall relatively calm. anywhere between 3 and 6 miles per hour. variable too. they were coming from the east or coming from the south. when you are talking about wind that light it is very insignificant. i also checked the upper level winds. and they weren't all that strong either. this is a satellite loop of the area, just kind of showing you there were patchy cloud. cloud at different levels in the atmosphere. but overall sky conditions were just fine. at this point we have no reason to believe that weather would be a concern. just kind of wanted to give you a little tour. show you the area a little better if you are not familiar with hoboken, new york, manhattan island. zoom in for you a little bit. you can see upstate new york, long island area. and going to take a little minute.

jacqui jeras thank you. again, the mayor during the press conference moments ago said simply this was an accident that was just not survivable. much more straight ahead right after this. >>> welcome back. the accident simply not survivable. the words from new york mayor michael bloomberg. talking about a midair collision taking place three hours ago right there in the hudson river between hoboken, new jersey, and lower manhattan. it involved a helicopter with five italian tourists on board. and a pilot which took off from a midtown helicopter tourist agency and the collision with a small aircraft with thee people on board. including a child that took off from the teeterboro, new jersey airport. it collided just after noontime. all nine people are dead. two people, two body have actually been recovered which is now a recovery mission there in the hudson river. but throughout the day we have heard from various eyewitnesses and this is what they have been telling us since just after noontime. >> right now a see

jacqui jeras is watching all of this for us. she's watching claudette, bill, and anna. what a threesome. >> it's been a busy couple of days. hasn't it? yeah. let's start out with the big one and that's bill. this is a very powerful hurricane as we speak. and it's been getting stronger. and now it's going through what we call an eye wall replacement cycle. something common, happens all the time, very strong storms, and you can kind of see here that the eye used to look like a pinpoint and becoming wider. in the coming hours, we'll watch that to closen up a little bit and we think it will intensify and become the first major hurricane of the season. right now the winds at 100 miles per hour has to be 111 for this to be considered a major hurricane, that's category three, four, or five. this is the latest on the forecast track. this is going much further north than what anna did and that means it's moving over the warmer waters and will have that chance to get stronger. bermuda still in the cone right now, but look how in time it curves on up to the north and that's becaus

let's get jacqui jeras live up with us right now., that is some powerful video coming to us out of ontario, canada of a tornado there. >> there were three of them reporting across the area, in that particular video. let's go ahead and look at it again, this is from the durham area, it was caught on tape. you can see the rotation in the clouds, the debris flying, there were a lot of homes damaged with these tornadoes, at least 100 of them in the vaughn area, cars were flipped over, and at least one person has been killed, three other people were injured. you don't get tornadoes up in these parts all that often. so it really, really extreme weather event taking place in ontario just outside of the toronto area. yesterday afternoon. now, today here in the united states, we're dealing with hurricane bill, and we're feeling the effects of this storm already. starting to get some large swells and some big waves up and down the eastern sea board. this is going to be impacting your weekend. if you think you're going to the beach, even though

. >> jacqui jeras, we will check back. thank you very much. >>> we are also following breaking news out of new york city. divers will be back in the murky hudson river early tomorrow. they will resume the search for two downed aircraft and six missing bodies off the hoboken waterfront. a tourist helicopter and a small plane with three people aboard collided about noon today, sending both careening into the hudson river. three bodies have been recovered so far. federal investigator are on the scene and have begun interviewing witnesses. the ntsb said one witness said another helicopter pilot who radioed a warning to his fellow pilot but it was too late. moments later, hundreds, if not thousands of people, saw the heartstopping horror unfold before their eyes. in seconds, the wreckage sank to the bottom of the hudson almost as if nothing had happened. let's go right now straight to the scene. susan candiotti. she has been on this story since it broke. susan? >> reporter: don, at this hour and over my shoulder, a police guard

our jacqui jeras is following all the weather across the nation. some nasty weather there.it's going to be some big travel delays in the morning. >> it was rough today, let me tell you, don. tomorrow is not looking any better. we had a real strong storm system that moved through the northeast throughout the day, and we had our fair share of wind damage, too. check out these pictures. this is from trenton, new jersey, where 60 plus-mile-per-hour winds blew through the area, cause something damage. it also knocked over some planes at the airport there. knocked over some trailers as well. no one was injured thankfully. now, not just winds, that wasn't the only problem. we also had torrential downpours. up to 5 inches of rainfall across the delaware valley. we'll show you the rising rivers in this area. we also had quite a bit of street flooding taking place as well. cars were stranded. there were a few water rescues which had to take place. much of this was a flash flooding event, so we'll watch this water continue to go down over the next couple of days. the schuylkill parkwa

let's check in with jacqui jeras in our severe weather center. >> we have a lot of extreme weather today, and we want to start out oversees because a very devastates situation is going on in taiwan and china both. let's check out these pictures that we have out of taiwan where a tropical system has been producing some torrential downpours. there you can see the pictures of this. believe it or not, they have had as much as 7 feet of rain. there you can see a hotel that was actually toppled over due to some unsettled ground from the waves and the saturated ground and the heavy rainfall in that area. this is the worst flooding that taiwan has seen in 50 years. thousands of people have been stranded in their villages as they've been cut off by the water. dozens are missing and feared dead. that typhoon today is pounding the coast of china forcing the million to flee to safety. it is moving up to the north and it's weakening packing winds now of 74 miles per hour. but it's expected to bring some very heavy rain to shanghai. back here at home, still in the pacific, we're dealing with a much ta

we turn now to our jacqui jeras. we're talking about a twister in minneapolis in a suburb there and what is going on in taiwan and overseas? >> yeah, the pictures have been incredible. right over here in our google earth, we have a satellite picture to show you where the storm is. here's taiwan right here. the storm made land fall here and the center is over land now. the maximum winds only about 40 miles per hour right now, which will be the equivalent of a tropical storm. and the storm wasn't even that strong when it was over taiwan, by the way. >> what gives? >> it stalled out. it sat there for about 24 hours over the island, and so they literally had nearly 7 feet of water. >> in a small amount of time. >> just from rainfall, not storm surge, really, really incredible. >> is that the hotel? >> yeah, this is the hotel and that was incredible pictures, as well. this is like a six-story hotel and there you can see it gave way because the ground underneath it all that soil everything got washed away. incredible video

kind of like the health care bill, isn't it, jacqui jeras? just somewhere out there strengthening. >> it's nice that it is in the middle of no where right now but that's not going to stay that way. of course, this is the latest on hurricane bill and this is the brand-new advisory so fresh information and the estimate now is that bill has grown a little bit stronger. 1 105-mile-per-hour winds. there you can see it gusts are stronger than that. we have gone through an eyewall replacement cycle. you look at the eye of this hurricane, see how tight it was and how small it was and how huge that thing was. about 45 miles across. now, in the coming hours what we're expecting, what eyewall replacement cycles do, the storm tends to tighten up and gets a little bit smaller and the storm tends to intensify. we do think that bill will likely become that category 3 storm. only 6 miles away from that as we speak. forecast track is just a smidge, slightly further off to the east, that's great news. we want it see that east, unless you live in bermuda, you'r

i'm jacqui jeras with the latest on hurricane bill. still a very powerful category 3 hurricane. just over 300 miles away from bermuda right now packing winds of 115 miles per hour and the gusts still higher than that. check this out. we found this on the web, the radar out of bermuda and there you can see the very tiny island in the middle here and then you can see those rain bands, which continue to make their way onshore. we do expect to see anywhere between about one and three inches of rain. now, the forecast track looking much the same, it's moving northwesterly now and we're expecting a gradual curve on up to the north and this could even happen later on tonight and this storm will eventually be weakening as it's heading towards some waters which are cooler making its closest approach to the u.s. some time likely on sunday morning. but we're already feeling the impacts of this thing, believe it or not. some very strong waves making its way along the shore and i want you to keep in mind as you look at some of these numbers here. five to ten feet and 10 to 15 feet and even u
