meteorologist jacqui jeras is leading the way. jacqui, what's going on? >> reports on the southwest side of wichita of power flashes. so that tells us that tornado is moving into the city, into the southwest part into the suburbs, going towards downtown. this is a tornado emergency. we know this tornado has been as much as between a quarter of a mile and half of a mile wide. so this is an emergency where you have to be in shelter, in your safe place right now. there's been heavy rain the last 20 to 30 minutes across wichita. the tornado itself somewhere in this area right here. if i switch this over to velocity mode, i'll have a better idea. we're talking in this area, it's getting close to the national weather service. here's wichita in the downtown area. there you can see the storm moving through. notice this just turn to that bright orange. that's some of that debris. so this is just outside of the national weather service office, which they have evacuated by the way. that has a storm shelter in the basement. we're tracking storm chasers. there are doz

cnn meteorologist jacqui jeras now in the cnn weather center. gosh, jacqui, the hail with this storm also causing a lot of damage, right? >> it was amazing. take a look at the pictures we have for you, wialison. this is out of o'fallon, illinois. reports of softball to baseball-sized hail. knocked out windows and windshields on cars. this is from kathy bollington in louisville, kentucky. louisville had very large hail, golf ball to baseball-sized hail reported in that area as well. there were about 220 severe hail reports, all across the midwest. and when we say severe hail, we're generally talking about 1-inch in diameter or more, and that's about the size of the quarter. when we're talking about tennis ball-sized hail, baseball-sized hail, that's almost 3 inches across. that can do a lot of damage. when that's coming down at you at about 150 miles per hour from tens of thousands of feet above, that can cause a lot of damage and certainly injure you, and why you need to stay inside when there's a severe thunderstorm warning. because hail can be

jacqui jeras in the weather center. it looks windy where rob is, but adding to his list of what people look out for, what are the indicators? bad weather on the way? >> it is, so here is where rob is right now. he's in hennessy, oklahoma. this is where oklahoma city is, to the south. what i want you to take a look at is what is happening out west. this is the dry line where rob was talking about and where thunderstorms are initiating. this is a couple hours away from where rob is. we think the second round is going to come in late tonight after the sun is done. that's what makes this so particularly dangerous, is that it's going to be impossible to see some of the tornadoes as they move on through. this is what we call that high risk day. storm chasers are out there all over the place, not just rob marciano, but we're watching this with a network of storm spotters. this is near dodge city, kansas, and really central parts of kansas right now is the area at greatest risk for the next two hours for rotating thunderstorms
