jade hernandez is there to show us the damage and talk about what is going on now. >> reporter: good morning, dave. i can show you they are working to board this home up. we are live in oakley this morning. you can see the top story of this home gone. the roof is gone. this house damaged. we are live along bay view drive. you have to see the flames. the call for help came into the fire department around 11:00 last night. no one was hurt. it did take a little more than a half hour to get this fire under control. multiple calls came in about flames. the first fire truck saw the flames from a mile away. by the time they arrived it was fully engulfed. no one was home as i mentioned. firefighters have not been able to get ahold of the homeowners. ten engines were called out to fight this fire. >> single family resident with a shake roof and stucco side. these houses are pretty close to each other. we did have flames coming from the sides of the house impinging on both the neighbors houses. we were able to keep the fire out of both neighbor houses. >> reporter: we spoke to the neighbor on

as jade hernandez tells us, there are still plenty of unanswered questions. jade. >> reporter: that is right. the facebook page created to facilitate information about this four month old reports very good news this morning. the profile picture says it all. located safe. this morning the contra costa county sheriffs office says the four-month-old had been found hours before 3:30 this morning. we still don't know how the baby is fairing or the circumstances surrounding her discovery. we do know there was an extensive search with dozens of volunteers and canine units. this is a picture of the baby found. it's unclear how a four-month- old disappeared from her bassinet. she put the little one down tousled around 10:00 saturday night. eight hours later she was gone from her crib. 20 minutes after finding their baby gone they called help. the authorities couldn't explain why it took so long to contact authorities but they did not suspect foul play. the search pulled in about 100 law enforcement officials, canine units along with volunteers. the family lives along t

ktvu's jade hernandez spoke exclusively to a woman almost hit by the same suspect. >> reporter: the r nurse was parking her car when she saw something coming toward her. >> so i tried to dodge him because he was coming head on and he actually ran into the cement pot that stopped the car. >> reporter: san francisco police arrived shortly after to find this car and its driver slamed into the concrete planter at st. mary's medical center. >> he got out of the car with his hands up and asked the cops what happened. >> reporter: they found a pedestrian who had been struck and killed in the crosswalk. police say this man, who suffered only minor cuts to his face and hands struck the pedestrian going at least 60 miles per hour if not more. he never slowed down. in an attempt to get away from the accident and police the department says he damaged four cars here along the medical center and left pieces of his own car and four different locations. >> when you have a lot of scenes it takes more time to investigate because you have to put the pieces together and collect evidence and see where the

ktvu's jade hernandez is out there. she's live in pittsburg. jade. >> reporter: this shooting took place nearly 12 hours ago and yet the suspect's car right here still in the parking lot where the suspect driving ended up after a short chase involving a pittsburg police officer. this investigation as you can tell is not over yet despite a dramatic arrest. a pittsburg police officer noticed a car roll through a stop sign last night. the officer tried to pull the driver over and the suspect sped off. the short chase ended behind a wells fargo bank near the atlantic plaza shopping center here in pittsburg. what happened next authorities say pushed a 13 year veteran of the police force to open fire after the driver got out of his car and opened fire on the officer. the suspect then ran past west boulevard and mad lin street where police lost sight of him. until hours later a 27-year-old took off toward a fourplex, the home of an acquaintance. police finally coaxed him out of an attic where they found him suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg. th

ktvu's jade hernandez joins us from livermore where the big race begins later this morning. jade, how's the city gearing up for the event today? >> reporter: oh, they're gearing up. in fact the tents and crews are already out here this morning. this is where the race will begin at first and l. street. and in just a few hours spectators and fans will get a chance to meet the cyclists. it's been described as pit row at nascar. and it's a first right here in livermore. the vice mayor is here this morning. listen to his enthusiasm about today. >> the past three city two years and saw thousands of people turning out cheering on the cyclists. so we had to bid for it. we had to demonstrate we could provide the resources and the volunteers to make this thing work. >> reporter: stage one and two were canceled due to snow up near lake tahoe, but stage three yesterday took riders from old town auburn through the central valley into downtown modesto. stage four which begins right here in livermore begins around noon will go through town down 81 miles south to silicon valley to san jose.

ktvu's jade hernandez joining us live with why pg&e's releasing the gas in the first place. jade. >> reporter: that's right. gas line 132a is a small feeder line. and pg&e is testing it later today. first they'll release a gas inside of it and then they'll push high pressure water through it. that small feeder line meets a major line right here at shoreline boulevard and middlefield road. now if gas line 132 sounds familiar, it should. it's the same line which runs up the peninsula and exploded in san bruno last fall. a few weeks ago pg&e held a meeting. the utility alerted neighbors they would be testing the pipeline today. the pipeline runs under businesses and homes from shoreline golf links to the middle school. pg&e says they still aren't too sure who will pay for the testing which is expected to cost as much as half a million dollars. this is what residents can expect to either hear or see today. you're looking at video provided by pg&e of high pressure water testing. gas inside 132a will be quickly released into the atmosphere. it should dissipate quickly. mountain vie

ktvu's jade hernandez joining us live to tell us what investigators are doing right now. jade. >> reporter: fire watch continues at this hour, dave. building inspectors and investigators are expected to be back out here looking at this building. the damage is apparent from the front of the park hotel where the fire started. what isn't clear is what caused flames. we did however speak to firefighters who explained this morning firefighters had to use thermal imaging to check on hot spots. you're looking at news chopper 2. a three story apartment building located near fulsome last night around 5:30. burning timbers fell from the hotel causing the fire chief to evacuate firefighters from the building. flames spread to two adjacent structures. one commercial, the other a six unit apartment building. a handful of people were treated for smoke inhalation. at least 75 people were requested help from the american red cross which set up a temporary shelter around the corner at the gene friend recreation center. >> we had lines let into the building in case we find hot spots. the tr

just about 30 minutes ago ktvu's jade hernandez got important new information about what may be behind this killing. jade. >> reporter: we're going to hear more from the san jose police spokesman but he told me this morning that the victim is latino, he is in his 20s. investigators don't know at this point if this is gang- related, but they are investigating it as such. i want you to take a look at what the scene looked like just about an hour ago. this deadly shooting is the 20th homicide of the year. and the gang unit has admitted they battle gang issues here in the city. and many of this year's early homicides were tied to gangs. this morning police are looking into whether this homicide is tied to gangs as well. this is what we know so far. someone reported hearing shots fired after 11:00 last night at checkers here in east san jose. when police arrived they found a man bleeding in the street with gunshot wounds. he died at the hospital. the shooting took place in a neighborhood filled with apartment complexes. so we don't know if the man lived in the area or whether he was visitin

ktvu's jade hernandez joins us now to talk about what police are saying. and they're saying apparently this is not a random shooting. jade. >> reporter: park police are investigating gang activity. they're telling me that the young man who was shot along this trail that you see behind me wasn't able to provide a lot of details because he was in a lot of pain. he was shot in his shoulder and he's undergoing surgery right now. his family called pittsburg police when they discovered the young victim last night. pittsburg police have turned over this investigation to the east bay regional park police because the shooting took place on the trail which is park jurisdiction. this is the scene just before police left this morning around 4:45. the young man shot is around 19 years old. he told police he was along the trail near crestview avenue and west heland around 11:30 last night when one of four men shot at him two or three times. only one of the four men the victim said had a gun. the victim would not say if he knew or had a connection with the suspects. but t

ktvu's jade hernandez joins us now to talk about why some people feel this is so important. jade. >> reporter: well, we've learned that there were 165 accidents on golden gate bridge within the last decade. it may not seem like a lot of accidents, but the golden gate bridge district says most of those accidents have occurred on the west sidewalk of the bridge. that's key. the west side of the bridge is open only to solo cyclists on the weekends and they share during the week. the district is proposing lowering the speed limit to 10 miles per hour. and 5 miles per hour around construction areas. some cyclists are opposed to changes because violators would be fined $100. in order to gauge reaction the district is holding two bike safety meetings and open houses today. one began just moments ago. for the district the aim to reduce speed is to cut down on the number of accidents on the golden gate bridge. >> bicyclist are on their own on the west sidewalk on the weekends. and it's interesting that in looking at the data of 165 accidents in the last ten years that the majority of

ktvu's jade hernandez joining us live. w evidence that we've just found out this morning about. jade? >> reporter: good morning. i just wrapped up a tour of the crime scene here in row day -- on rodeo. we've just learned that one of the bullets pierced a window back in this complex here. it pierced a window in an apartment complex. luckily no one was home but that bullet landed right near a bunkbed. again, no one was hurt inside that apartment complex but this deadly shooting could have had more victims. this is the first homicide of the year in rodeo. sheriff's deputies are on the intersection -- were at this intersection, when they found the spot that may proof prove there was a second shooter. all of the orange cones, that shows all of the evidence gathered that proves there was a second shooter in this deadly shooting. right now, investigators don't have any witnesses and neighbors are really scared and afraid to cooperate we can show you the van involved in this deadly shooting as it was towed away. a sergeant told me

jade hernandez is live in mountain view with what the utility company is doing to protect customers. good morning, jade. >> reporter: good morning. pg&e will vent the gas line 132a later today. it joins the pipeline right here at middle field road right here at this intersection here at shoreline boulevard. now if this line sounds familiar, it should. it's the same line which runs up the peninsula and exploded in san bruno. a few weeks ago ktvu attended along with concerned residents a meeting pg&e held. pg&e alerted neighbors they would be testing the pipeline and the day has come where the utility will fill the pipeline with water under high pressure to see if it's safe and won't burst. but first it will be vented of gas. the venting is scheduled for today. residents from shoreline golf links to the middle school will be effected. pg&e indicated the gas inside 132a will be quickly released into the atmosphere and should dissipate without harm to the environment. mountain view and antioch are the first cities to have their gas line pressure tested following the san bruno disaster. th

jade hernandez joining us live from oakland to tell us about emergency repair work this weekend and how passengers are going to be affected. jade? >> bart decided to do the repair work over the weekend because they said it impacted the least number of people. during the week, they said it would have impacted two to three times as many people. just about an hour ago, bart held a press conference right here at the 12th street bart station. they gave us an update about what riders would need to keep in mind this weekend. at the meeting, we were given this picture to show the damage done by a fire back on december 19th. the the repair work will be done over the next two weekends, causing delays. vital maintenance to the electric cable. the assistant manager gave us an example of the cable which will be replaced. we were told the riders most affected are the dublin and fremont riders through lake merritt. the emphasis was on the 12th street bart. all transfers will go over the 12th street station over the usually 19th station. two tracks will cause delays, anywhere from 20 to 40 minutes. on

ktvu's jade hernandez joining us live. she's in mountain view right now to tell us why pg&e is venting this gas in the first place. jade? >> reporter: that's right i just got off the phone with a pg&e spokesperson. i've been told they will be venting gas in preparation of pressure testing that will start next week. now, within the last half-hour we've moved and the reason we've done that is because gas line 132-a, which pg&e is ent having, is a feeder line and it connects with line 132. if gas line 132 sounds familiar, it should, it's the same line that runs up the peninsula and exploded in san bruno last fall. a few weeks ago, pg&e held a meeting and they alerted neighbors that they would be testing the pipe or venting the gas. the pipeline uns under businesses and homes from shoreline creek to the middle school. pg&e is still not sure who will pay for this testing. which is expected to cost around $100 million -- $00 billion. before the water testing next week, pg&e has to reduce gas from that line. mountain view and anti

ktvu's jay hernandez is joining us. jade you will tell us about the reason for some detours, good morning. >> reporter: good morning the man overseeing this closure for bart spoke to us ten minutes ago. we were down here at the 12th street bart station getting an update about bart and what riders would have to keep in mind this weekend. one thing we were told is check your transfer and remember that if you're traveling anywhere from the fremont dublin bart stations, up through the lake merit station, this transfer station is super important. one of the two tracks will be closed to perform what bart is calling vital maintenance and repair work to electric cables within the system. translation for riders, some delays over memorial day weekend. the delays could be 20 to 40 minutes, since on saturday, single tracking goes from 6:00 in the morning for an hour and a half. on sunday and memorial day, expect delays from 8:00 in the morning until 2:30 in the afternoon, plus bart will be running a sunday schedule on memorial day. and

jade hernandez explains how microsoft plans to make a bigger splash on the internet. jade? >> reporter: that's right. in less than a half-hour there will be a press conference at the four seasons in san francisco to discuss microsoft taking over skype. now, microsoft bought skype for more than $8 billion. 8.5 to be exact. it came down to a bidding war between microsoft and google, known rivals. experts are weighing in. we spoke to our tech expert about ten minutes ago and he told me the amount of money is a little bit surprising to him. it's clear that google did not want microsoft buying skype. it appears it's changing as we speak. skype has been competing with apple and some of microsoft's own properties overlap with skype. now, microsoft's ceo steve palmer and skype's ceo is expected to be here. there is a planned question-and- answer session and remarks are expected by the key players in this acquisition. we're heading up to the fifth floor. we'll be in that press conference and bring you more later on during "mornings on 2." reporting live from san francisco, jade hern

ktvu jade hernandez just spoke with sarah shourd who was once in prison along with the two men. jade is in berkeley this morning with what shourd had to say. jade. >> reporter: good morning, we are live at cal buzz of the three american hikers graduated from the university and as you mention i just spoke with sarah shourd she was released last fall. she told me she is sick with worry and feels like she is back in limbo. >> i was devastated. our hopes and expectations had been building for the last 21 months. and we really had our hearts set on a resolution. >> reporter: it's been five months since they have spoken to loved ones. court was expected to resume at 10:00 a.m. this morning in iran but was canceled when they were not brought into court. the families for josh and shane released this statement this morning saying today's developments appear to be another example of another arbitrary they seem to be subjected to. they continue to play games with their lives and the constant uncertainty and fear for shane and josh is ruining our lives. they gave no explanation why they were

jade hernandez has been talking to neighbors this morning and they have more. >> reporter: that is righted more in the past hour. but what has been going on inside of this house before the fire last night. but first look at this. flames shooting through the roof along bay view drive. by the time the first engine was a mile away, firefighters could see the fire. firefighters arrived before 11:30 last night. the home was already engulfed in flames. this is what we are hearing from neighbors at this hour. one neighbor said he watched the homeowner take the truck and tried to rip the walls away from the home. and if that is not bad enough he saw the man take his kitchen appliances out of the home on saturday. another neighbor said the couple that lives here inside of this home have had police at their door multiple times. >> i guess the guy had flooded his house before once and the whole house got remodeled and he trashed everything. and there was a big pile of furniture and everything. >> reporter: you're looking at the inside of this homos garage. you can see see the damage. the east contr

jade hernandez has more. >> reporter: tori, this crew is on fire watch. the investigators should arrive shortly, we're thinking within the next hour or so. i just spoke with someone with the american red cross. that person was able to update me on numbers. about 100 people have signed up for help and aid. 28 people stayed in a shelter just around the corner at sixth and fulsom. that's where a temporary shelter was set up for folks who live inside this building, the clark hotel. investigators are expected to be out later this morning. the damage is apparent from the front. what isn't clear is the cause of the flames. we spoke to firefighters this morning who told us they used thermal imaging to check for hot spots. you're looking at some of the video from last night. it ranged -- raged through clark hotel. burning timbers fell causing the fire chief to evacuate firefighters. flames spread to adjacent structures. one commercial, the other a six-unit apartment building. as we mentioned, about 100 people requested help from the american red cross which set up

jade hernandez joins us live from oakland. >> reporter: thousands may not may -- thousands may -- may be affected and not just in this area. the u.s. secret service and oakland pd detailed one operation which could open up a huge identity theft ring. these pictures come from michelle williams' home in hayward. police say she was operating a huge identity theft ring which may involve other suspects. the oakland police department became involved in late january, early february. among the confiscated goods, disks filmed with came driver's licenses. >> i know what keeps me awake at night is the thought that someone may steal my accounts. that's what we are gonna talk about today. >> reporter: what you were just hearing, chief batts talking at a press conference that wrapped up 45 minutes ago. he described what was found inside williams' home, including social security cards, printers and fake names. now, williams told police she's not currently working. she's disabled. she has a felony for welfare fraud. she's charged with 20 counts, including passing forged check, the amount just under $

ktvu jade hernandez tells us investigators have traced the fire to the kitchen. >> reporter: that is right. firefighters left a few hours ago. you can see this morning crews are working to board the home up and what is left. a neighbor in the back noticed flames shooting from the home around 2:15 and called for help immediately. after they arrived the 81-year- old woman homeowner had already made her way outside the home. paramedics still had to take the woman to the hospital though she suffered from smoke inhalation. the woman will be all right but her home will not. >> the initial fire was reported in the kitchen area. that's where the most damage was. we're at $150,000 and it was started accidentally with a cooking fire. >> reporter: this one alarm fire has left the structure uninhappennable this -- uninhabitable this morning. the battalion chief told us the 81-year-old woman left something on the stove and fell asleep. that is the cause for the flames this morning. of course she is still in the hospital. she suffered from smoke inla hahlation. reporting live from concord jade her

jade hernandez is out there now. will tell us more from the fire scene coming up in the next half hour. >>> first responders are working without key equipment this morning. ktvu channel 2 reporter claudine wong has been talking to police officers about this problem. she's now in the city to tell us what they are saying. claudine. >> reporter: here is the deal. if you call 911 you probably won't notice any change in service. police are still responding to calls. but police officers on the street tell me this morning there is definitely an ongoing problem right now with how dispatch is exhuming with officers on the street. the problems are what is in those cars or more specifically the laptops in the cars. dispatch gets a 911 call and transmyths all the information -- and transmits all the information. that system went down yesterday and it's still down this morning. what that means is that instead of getting the information in those computers, the officers have to get it over the radio. it takes a little longer. one v
