ktvu's jade hernandez spent the day at a job fair. >> reporter: more than a month since he got home from his deployment. >> really hard right now, the economy, i guess, is turning up. >> reporter: but if he doesn't sound convince, it is because fellow veterans are not getting hired. it is not because they don't have skills. >> i am interested in it field. i working on my certification. i have background in communication. >> his resume overwhelms somebody in the civilian word. >> respect the chain of command, a lot of professional that comes out of that. >> the fact that they served in the armed forces, their morales are in place. they are honest. >> his business allows for a vet's easy transition. >> we designed this program for the veteran. >> reporter: it will take organizers six months to determine how many secured a job today but sponsors say the odds are good. his chances of walking away with a job rose to 90%. >> since the program's inception we had 18,000 vets hired directly. >> once they come out if they get provided the opportunity they will sell. >> reporter: in san jose, jade

ktvu's jade hernandez has been following this story and today she spoke with the victim's grieving father. >>> there are no words to describe what the family is experiencing. detectives are still hoping for tips from the community. >> reporter: he showed me photos of his son jacob valdiviezo. in this one jacob valdiviezo he stands tall with his mother. today his father met with neighbors. he told us he was walking home from a get together saturday morning around 3:00 a.m. san francisco police say someone drove up, got out, asked him if he was in a gang and shot him near his parent's home. he found his son pleading grom gun shot wounds to his head and -- bleeding from gun shot wounds to his head and chest. the student at lewis and clark college was on a football scholarship. mese are hoping -- police are hoping for leads, someone who saw or heard something. >> he was a college student doing good, no problems with the police, no previous contacts. so it is a tragedy. >> tragedy nares are handling -- are handling by keeping his memory alive. >> reporter: so sad. so sad is the neighborhood. h

ktvu's jade hernandez is live now at the theater where supporters tell her, they are not givingup on saving it just yet. >> reporter: no they are not. this movie let out about 20 minutes ago and as you can see supporters are not going any where. moviegoers came to see 2001 space odyssey, partly to relive the past and part of that to see the future. today was the last day to catch a movie here so supporters urged signing a petition to save it. chief organizers chelsea simmons says she has 2,000 signatures so far. she hopes the city council will reconsider to save the theater. >> i just don't know why they would think that putting a sporting goods store in. >> reporter: for jack heginosom who met his friend to watch the movie, it brought back a memory to a trip to watch the very same movie. >> it's sad to know that it's been torn down. >> reporter: people tend to think that the area has no character, but we want to show that we do have character and it's worth saving. >> reporter: a permit has been issued so the dome could be knocked down as early as the end of the month. reporting liv
