ktvu's jade hernandez joining us live to tell us what investigators are doing right now. jade. >> reporter: fire watch continues at this hour, dave. building inspectors and investigators are expected to be back out here looking at this building. the damage is apparent from the front of the park hotel where the fire started. what isn't clear is what caused flames. we did however speak to firefighters who explained this morning firefighters had to use thermal imaging to check on hot spots. you're looking at news chopper 2. a three story apartment building located near fulsome last night around 5:30. burning timbers fell from the hotel causing the fire chief to evacuate firefighters from the building. flames spread to two adjacent structures. one commercial, the other a six unit apartment building. a handful of people were treated for smoke inhalation. at least 75 people were requested help from the american red cross which set up a temporary shelter around the corner at the gene friend recreation center. >> we had lines let into the building in case we find hot spots. the t

ktvu's jade hernandez tells us who is coming to the aid of these people who have been forced from their homes. jade. >> reporter: well, we have a new development. within the past 20 minutes firefighters found a chihuahua inside of that building. that building was destroyed and ravaged by flames last night. we've been told the fire department has called the spca. the dog didn't have a name tag, but firefighters tell me they are certain they'll find the owner. the small dog shaking from its ordeal seemed to be all right. we spoke to the firefighter who found him. you're going to hear from him in just a second. but we can tell you right now that firefighters are still on fire watch. and that's one of the reasons why the firefighter was able to go into one of the apartment buildings and find that dog because they were looking for hot spots this morning. about an hour ago firefighters switched out crews here. the damage is apparent from the front of the park hotel where the fire started. what isn't clear this morning is what caused the flames. there are a couple residents walking around this

ktvu's jade hernandez joining us this morning live at the golden gate bridge with more on the reasons bridge officials are considering these new safety rules. jade. >> reporter: that's right. the aim to reduce speed is to actually cut down on the number of accidents on the golden gate bridge. the bridge district has proposed a 10 miles per hour speed limit. and they're holding two bike safety meetings and open houses today to discuss that. some cyclists say no way to a speed limit change. one main reason is the $100 fine for violators. now the first meeting is scheduled to take place in an hour from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 right here at vista point on the marin side of the bridge. and the second is from 3:00 to 5:00 at the district's administrative offices on the other side of the bridge. now there's also talk about a 5 miles per hour speed limit around construction zones on the bridge as well. coming up we're going to gauge reaction here on the bridge about a possible new lower speed limit and how it would effect cyclists in the future. reporting live, jade hernandez, ktvu channel 2 news.

ktvu's jade hernandez joining us live. she's in mountain view right now to tell us why pg&e is venting this gas in the first place. jade? >> reporter: that's right i just got off the phone with a pg&e spokesperson. i've been told they will be venting gas in preparation of pressure testing that will start next week. now, within the last half-hour we've moved and the reason we've done that is because gas line 132-a, which pg&e is ent having, is a feeder line and it connects with line 132. if gas line 132 sounds familiar, it should, it's the same line that runs up the peninsula and exploded in san bruno last fall. a few weeks ago, pg&e held a meeting and they alerted neighbors that they would be testing the pipe or venting the gas. the pipeline uns under businesses and homes from shoreline creek to the middle school. pg&e is still not sure who will pay for this testing. which is expected to cost around $100 million -- $00 billion. before the water testing next week, pg&e has to reduce gas from that line. mountain view and ant
