dnc chair person, jaime harrison.that it seems democrats keep running against trump? he's not in office. >> listen, stephanie, i wouldn't say this is the first big test. we had to fight back and push back against recall in california. we have a race in new jersey right now and in virginia as well. this is the thing, donald trump, if you ask the republicans, he's still the head of their party. rona mcdaniel said that often. we see that in terms of how republicans react. he has endorsed glenn youngkin six times in this race. so his presence is looming still in american politics. so therefore it's important that the voters in the commonwealth of virginia understand that youngkin is a trump accolite. he is against marriage equality. last time i looked, it's 2021, and he's against marriage equality. he has an ad out where he wants to ban booked like "beloved." again, this sort of harkins back to the old past that we've had in this country where there's only certain elevated communities. that's what young kin represents. it

joining me is jaime harrison, the chair of the democratic national committee. thank you very much. before we get going and get into what happened in the senate, ed lavandera laid out how texas' new map would give white republicans disproportionate representation even as minorities are making up a greater share of the state population. and you can see it really clearly when you look at the numbers here. it's straight up voting restrictions for minorities and people of color. what is going on and why can't democrats combat this? >> well, we will push back in the courts. don, as you know, after the census is done, you have reapportionment and you re-draw the congressional lines. and if you don't control the legislature -- democrats don't control the legislature, the senate or the house in texas. so the republicans have the control in order to draw the line. but this is the thing. they are being so ambitious because all of the growth in texas happened because of minority communities. black and brown folks going into texas increasing the population of that state. we are going to take th

jaime harrison was here. of course, mcauliffe is the former dnc chair. obama, and on tuesday president joe biden will be making a stop in northern virginia. you're seeing that on the democratic side but not the republican side. glenn youngkin is really keeping it at arm's length to some of these national figures, especially campaigning alongside of them. as the old saying goes, kendis, all politics is local. what is and is not working is at capitol hill. it matters to democrats up and down the ticket across the country. and that's what voters really care about, so that's going to really impact them. it's important to see what forter president barack obama is going to be doing for terry mcauliffe here. he released an ad for himmer earlier this week. he said yerkes, it's about the governor, but also what's ahead in the country. he knows it's a lot more than the governorship. he says, i know terry. that's a personal relationship. that worked when he said i know joe in the election and he hopes that works today. >> the race is way too close for many democrat
