>> thank you for having me, jake.men in law enforcement here in houston, harris county, are working hard doing their job. we have to look at the entire criminal justice system. our prosecutors, our courts, and our corrections. now, it is true there is a proliferation of guns here in houston, harris county. and many of the folks that possess them do not qualify to own or possess a firearm. but during covid our court systems here were basically shut down. there were no criminal trials so you have many individuals who are habitual offenders convicted felons with additional charges that are out on bail and some are out on bonds. just two days ago, jake, monday morning, two houston police officers were shot. one was killed. officer bill jeffries. by a habitual, violent felon with a firearm. he shouldn't have had the gun. he shouldn't have been out. he should be in jail with a no bond. so our judges, prosecutors have to be held accountable just like men and women in law enforcement, police officers on the street. >> thanks

tell us about that. >> it's interesting, jake.er really been a reason to worry about this vaccine for pregnant women. pregnant women take all sorts of vaccines all the time safely for decades and decades. but because there's been such misinformation on social media about this vaccine for pregnant women, it's good to see these results. so these are two studies very large. one was about 2,000 people. one was more than 100,000 people. and what they found was that the risk of miscarriage was no greater for women who were fully vaccinated. now, of course, people who were fully vaccinated sometimes miscarried. and people who were not vaccinated had miscarriages. miscarriages are quite common. all in all, there is nothing bad to say about this vaccine for pregnant women. lots of good things to say, it can keep you and your baby healthy, and after birth what they found is that vaccinated women, they had the antibodies in their blood and breast milk, so possibly conferring immunity to their babies. >> thank you so much. >>> also in our hea

i'm jake tapper. we begin with the crisis on the border that just keeps getting worse. these are live pictures of del rio, texas, a town that borders mexico where almost 9,000 migrants are currently camping out, mostly refugees fleeing the devastation of haiti. up to 30,000 more could be joining them coming to the united states through south and central america. of course all eyes are on the biden administration as border patrol agents are aggressively threatening migrants. all of this as the border town bursts at the scenes, hundreds of migrants being sent 430 miles west to el paso, just to be flown back to haiti. senator chuck schumer is pleading with biden to immediately halt the deportations. cnn's rosa flores is in del rio. president biden said today we're getting it under control. where you are, does the situation on the ground look under control? >> reporter: you know, jake, here the beauty of live television, we can show the american people with live pictures. take a look at this dramatic foot

jake, i think the issue is a little bit that right now we're in the throes of it. by the time vaccines actually go into people's arms and wait another week for another shot because these are mostly two-vaccine doses, you're talking about a month or longer before you see the true impact of the vaccines. it will ultimately make a difference but it's late at this point to -- we should have been doing some of this some time ago in order to have a most impact now. where we are in the country, you know, throw and a half times more cases versus labor day of 2020. two and a half times more hospitalizations now compared to a year ago, nearly two times as many deaths. now we've seen in other countries a rapid descent of cases from delta in the uk, for example. we may see that here as well so that may just be because this is rippling through the country and hospitals are becoming overwhelmed and it's all the terrible tragic stuff that occurs in the middle of a pandemic. but as a result. we may have a descent of cases over the next few weeks. the plans he's talking about now w

well done, jake oken-berg, and thank you. the presiding officer: the senator from iowa. ms. ernst: mr. president, we recently marked the 20th anniversary of september 11, a day that forever changed our nation. this direct assault on our country sparked the global war on terrorism, a war that came at great personal cost to our men and women serving in the armed forces. as a combat veteran, as the mother of a future soldier, even simply as an american, the events in afghanistan have been extremely disheartening to watch. i've heard from so many veterans and service members who served during this war, many of whom are distraught and disappointed at the haphazard way the war in afghanistan came to a close. i've also heard from too many gold star families who lost so much during this conflict -- their spouses, their fathers, their mothers, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters. recent events have left them questioning themselves and whether their family member's sacrifice was worth it. while we can't put the genie back in the battle when it comes do what happened in afghanistan

we had different financial deadlines, as jake laid out. some of these are self-imposed democratic deadlines relateding to the president's agenda, where most of the energy on part of the white house is geared at this moment. no meetings at the white house today with lawmakers and the president directly, but there are staff-level conversations continuing. we did hear from general psaki earlier today laying out some contingency planning under way, should the government fail to pass legislation to pay its bills starting next week. this is sort of the yearly fiscal deadline they face involving office of management and budget beginning to spell out seven days in advance so all government agencies can begin to prepare for what happens if the funding dries up in a week. again, this is something that has unfortunately become routine. something o & b become accustomed to prepare for because of deadlines we face. at this stage, doesn't appear that's where the white house's main concern is. they're working to get the president's agenda, build back bet
