i'm jake tapper. we start with our world lead, a four hour meeting in saudi arabia about ukraine's future without ukraine or its european allies. at the table, secretary of state marco rubio says he and his russian counterparts will work to end the conflict in ukraine in a way that's, quote, acceptable for all involved, unquote. but ukrainian president zelenskyy says there's no deal without ukraine's involvement, and he will not give in to russia's ultimatums. among the agreements between russia and u.s. officials, the u.s. and russia will appoint teams to help negotiate towards an end to the war, reestablish embassies in washington, d.c., and moscow. there are two ways to look at this. president trump is pushing a deal where, inevitably, ukraine would have to make a concession, bringing not a perfect but necessary end to the staggering loss of life in ukraine. another way to look at it russia is getting exactly what it wants. status appear with the u.s. room for economic growth and without european a

but of course, jake, he can only do so much.was asked from the justice department and turned over today is something that the doj can actually obtain. the fbi works for the department of justice, but of course, if you're an fbi employee, you're looking at all this happening. you're facing two major issues. not only that, donald trump has said specifically, i'm going after the fbi. but you look at this larger purge on the horizon for federal employees. we've seen things like the so-called fork in the road email that was sent out to all employees across the federal government, basically asking them to leave early. by the way, inside the government, they've been privately referring to that as the fork in the eye email. but it's clearly they feel under siege here, being targeted not only because they're federal employees, but specifically because they work for the fbi. >> all right, josh and john, thanks so much to both of you. we're going to squeeze in a quick break. we'll be right back. >> welcome back. >> have i got news for you

i'm jake tapper. today, new reaction from world leaders, lawmakers and even palestinians after trump's shocking comments last night. last night saying the u.s., quote, will take over, unquote. gaza trump unveiled his, quote, long term ownership, unquote, and redevelopment plan for the 141 square mile territory, much of which has been reduced to rubble after 15 months of war between israel and hamas. follow following hamas attack on october 7th, 2023. so how does president trump plan to get approximately 2 million palestinians to leave gaza? the white house this afternoon, reiterating that trump did not commit to putting u.s. boots on the ground while also not ruling it out. it's not clear what the details of this plan are, or if details exist at all. mr. trump, after all, said the gaza strip could become the riviera of the middle east. >> i envision a world, people living there, the world's people. i think you'll make that into an international, unbelievable place. >> the world's people, he said. toda

but we have another problem, jake. i think if you look at a discussion that's happened on the hill for a long time, our air traffic control system, it's antiquated. a lot of the systems we use date back to world war two. we have to upgrade the system. we have to have the best system in the world. the technology was developed here, but it's not being used here. so president trump has said that to me numerous times. he's on board. i have to work with democrats and republicans on the hill. we're going to need their insight, their resources. but we can we can truly impact the efficiency and safety of the airspace if we upgrade the system. >> so you just alluded to die the diversity, equity and inclusion processes of trying to expand people in the workforce. is there any specific evidence that backs up donald trump's claims? president trump's claims that die or faa hiring practices are responsible in any way for this tragedy? at reagan national? >> so, jake, i think the better question is, am i going to guarantee the americ

so this march 14th looming deadline, as jake said, is a really big deal.t's a huge opportunity for democrats. the question is, can they take advantage of it now? historically, government shutdowns have been laid at the doorstep, appropriately of republicans, and they've paid a price for that. so the question is, can republicans flip the deck this time if they can't get democrats to help fund the budget and lay it on them? and this this will be a real message war between the parties to see who ultimately gets responsibility for it. but it's also an opportunity for the democrats to leverage something in order to get a deal, because ultimately, republicans are going to have to get a deal, and people like chip roy just aren't going to vote. so they need some democratic votes. but again, as jake said, it's pretty hard to get all the democrats in lockstep either. and so the republicans only need a few democrats to. >> yeah, jake, new york magazine writes that, quote, fighting trump with alarms about his violation of legal and constitutional limitations on presid
