jake sherman of "politico" and paul kane of "the washington post." just saw you passed a resolution to keep the government open until mid- december. you have this language stripping obamacare funding. even ted cruz has admitted that when it goes to the senate harry reid has the votes and is probably going to be a post to -- be able to strip it and send it back to the house. you have 48 hours or so to decide what to do next. what do you do next? >> the first thing we do is pass a bill over to the senate that keep government funded while also defending the president's health care law along with the full faith and credit act to ensure the fault is not an option for a nations debt. is not an option for a nation's debt. if you look at all of the problems that we hear across the country about the president's health care law, this is an unworkable bill. it is so unworkable that the president has acknowledged that it is not working but he only wants to get a reprieve to big businesses that can get access to the white house in the bill it is to all american f

joining us now from our washington bureau is jake sherman, congressional reporter from politico. jake, good morning to you. >> good morning. >> so senator john mccain has said we have seen this movie before. how serious is this? could there be a shutdown in nine days? >> like the president said we have seen this movie before. there could be a shutdown. there are two fights, the government funding fight and the debt ceiling. the government funding fight, they're trying to strip out obama care. the republicans are likely to back down. as harry reid said this is going nowhere in the senate but john boehner has vowed to fight even harder. they both have huge impacts to the economy, and they're going to try to defund obama care at every turn. >> jake, if there is a shutdown if it comes to that -- admittedly we hope it doesn't -- what's the likely impact? >> it would definitely rattle the economy. you know as the president said the economy is recovering at a -- it's very fragile at this point. you'd see it slowly. people would first have to -- parks and museums and federal workers would

. >> for a closer look at what we might expect on capitol hill, we are joined by jake sherman from washingtonod morning, jake. >> good morning approximate i guess the question has to be asked, what's worst for the republicans, not dealing with obamacare right now or having to answer to the electorate in 2014? >> i think the issue here is pretty simple, house republicans have been trying to defund this health care law for years. they're frustrated they haven't been able to do it so are trying to attach it to a must-pass piece of legislation. elder folks in the party realize the political impacts. speaker boehner behind closed doors has said that a government shutdown would be the only path to the minority for house republicans. the political impacts here are very stiff, and really at this point, we don't see a way out. we don't know how movie that we've seen before is going to end. >> a lot of people are asking me if there is a fear among house republicans that if obamacare, as they call it, goes into effect, the american people actually might like it. >> i'm not sure that that's what they thi
