kasie hunt on capitol hill, and politico's senior writer jake sherman is also on the hill. kristin, theet mooing just let out, i hear the president got a standing ovation. >> two, one at the beginning of the meet and one at the ends of the meeting. i'm also told according to those who were inside that room -- and that meeting just wrapped up, so this is coming to us just moments ago that it was a tough meeting. did the president get the votes he needs? did he flip seven no votes to yes? i was told the house freedom caucus hates this bill. so that is not the direction did white house wants to be going in at this hour. but i want to caution and i spoke with another senior official who said look we are still confident we are going to get the votes. the president is talking not only to the house freedom caucus but also to moderates. why is this significant? so much was riding on this meeting because it comes on the heels of white house and gop leaders offering a major concession to house freedom caucus members singsly saying they will allow health care coverage to not include s

. >> joining us also is jake sherman with politico who's up on capitol hill. in what we're looking at, jake, on the screen here. on the left side of your screen is that scene of reporters outside where the house freedom caucus is meeting. those are the quefshtive members who had a lot of trouble with the current legislation and basically caused the delay of the vote today. down in the lower right is where we were thinking we were going to see speaker paul ryan. we're not even sure if that's actually going to happen at this point. jake, what are you hearing as far as the senate side? i mean, this is all about the house today, but surely the senators are watching and reacting to what's happened? >> this is getting lost in the narrative. the irony is, this is kind of an academic exercise because enough senators, republican senators, have said they're not interested in any legislation that looks like this. now, what the house has hoped would happen is they would pass some version of this health care bill, the senate would gut it and it would come back to the house.
