. >>> joining us now, jake sherman. thankfully, he is an msnbc political contributor. ing up. i want to ask you first about what we jud just heard, congressman steve ka lease is a new voice pushing to get the vaccine. we've seen some voice in the conservative media, not all, some voices, sean hannity among them stressing people to get the vaccine. what do you think brings on this move in terms of republicans on the hill and what are you seeing there? seeing reports of people putting on masks again. what is the move? >> i'm putting a mask back on. i started wearing masks this week. i have young children as you do, john, and i'm not going to put my kids at risk because some people don't want to get vaccinated. and so i'm wearing a mask. i can tell you i was surprised by scalise. oddly enough, we asked him i think monday before this news broke, we asked the staff if he had been vaccinated. they said yes. we didn't think that they meant he had been vaccinated like yesterday. we thought they meant he had been vaccinated in due course, especially given the fact that he was gr

you know, jake sherman, i just said. >> what are you doing?ck and forth. yeah, members of congress, when i was in there they said, do you fly back and forth to your district every three or four days a lot of times. you're in your district, going to town hall meetings, going to events. you are surrounded by people, yes, for the 100 or so members, 50 members that come from hot spots, there is a really good chance somebody's going to bring the delta variant back into that chamber and pass it along and kill somebody or maybe have them go home and get somebody really sick if their family. it's just not hard. again, you wonder how low the republican party will go. you wonder how low kevin mccarthy will go. you ask a question, is kevin mccarthy really that stupid? many would sigh, that's a rhetorical question. talk about back and forth you just saw between mccarthy and ryan. >> mccarthy said 65 members all of kevin's party are now vaccinated. so, 85 -- >> so unbelievable. >> so that means 15% or not, which is roughly 60-something members of congress

jake sherman, sahil, both live on capitol hill. thank you both. >>> joining us now to continue the conversation, jason crow, impeachment manager. thank you so much for your time, congressman. let's start with what we're hearing from our colleague jake sherman. what do you make of this battle between speaker pelosi and republican leader kevin mccarthy over his picks for the january 6th select committee. are you at all worried that this fight could, in fact, make it harder for your caucus and what speaker pelosi wants to see independent, fact-based commission, nonpartisan. >> well, thanks for having me, ayman. let's start with the last part of that question. is answer to that is no. we have always been clear eyed. we've been focussed. we've been disciplined from day one right after this insurrection happened. we said we're going to find the truth. we're going to make sure those officers who were brutally beaten, other 140 that day, those that lost their lives and others, that we are doing right by them and their families. we're going

lee ann caldwell, justice correspondent pete williams, jake sherman. pete, let me start with you. you know so many of the details of the arrest records, who's been arrested, what's going on. did you learn anything new today? >> frankly, not much. a little detail on what happened to the four officers but they to some extent talked about this before. i don't think as you said this was the goal of the hearing today, was to shed much new light on this, i think it was to open with such a provocative, emotional and really moving statement of what was at stake. important to remember, other police officers could have told similar stories of the 570 people charged with taking care of the capitol riot. there are at least 130 charged with assaulting police officers, more than 140 officers from capitol police officers. some of them with injuries they'll bear the rest of their lives. i don't think it was that kind of a hearing. to further amplify, the chore is to answer questions that haven't been answered. why wasn't intelligence better, why was law enforcement response so slow. how do you ch
