i'm jake tapper. we've been following this breaking story, school shooting north of seattle at marysville-pilchuck high school, about a 45-minute drive north of seattle. two students are dead. we've been told. including the gunman who we've been told was a lone gunman. also a student is dead. four others are injured. three of those were injured critically with head wounds. local police confirmed this last hour that the triggerman took his own life. the three critically wounded are now in surgery at providence medical center in everett, washington. a team of about 25 doctors, drama, heart, vascular, neurosurgeons, all working to make sure no one else dies. let's go straight to evan perez who's in studio with me. federal law enforcement forces tell you they believe up to six people were shot, including the shooter. what else are you hearing? >> including the shooter. at this point, they're fearful we may have more bad news. the injuries to these other kids was severe. so obviously that's what the doctor

i'm jake tapper. we'll begin with the national lead. with each new ebola case in the u.s. comes a message from the government to the public to keep calm, everything is under control. and yet our leaders are all over the place on just what needs to happen to keep us all safe. just minutes ago, the centers for disease control released new guidelines on how to deal with health care workers returning from the ebola hot zone in west africa. these new protocols are likely an effort to curb a recent trend of states enacting their own rules for increased monitoring of health care workers which in some cases includes a mandatory 21-day home quarantine. the governor of new york, governor cuomo and governor chris christie have called for even stricter policy for a hospital quarantine for people out of state, such as kaci hickox, the nurse who returned from treating patients in west africa only to be put in a tent in newark hospital which lacked basic amenities such as a flushable toilet or a shower. white house

i'm jake tapper. this is "the lead." moments ago, canadian law enforcement officials were revealing new details about yesterday's horrific attack in ottawa. i'm joined now by cnn justice correspondent pamela brown who's been monitoring this for us. we saw lots of closed circuit tv of the shooter running from the war memorial to the parliament. they gave information that he had just bought a car on october 21st. interestingly, they said they had discovered an association that the shooter had with some individuals with radical views. you have more on that. >> we do. we're learning that he did have connections -- interactions with other individuals who had islamic extremist views online that he interacted with these individuals on extremist websites and through social media. but at this point, it's unclear how far his connections with these individuals went. in other words, it doesn't appear at this point in the investigation that there were any operational links between the gunman and these extremists b

i'm jake tapper and this is "the lead." many places are dealing with this crisis in one way or another. nina pham, the first of two nurses who contracted ebola, is expected to be moved from the lone star state to a national of states isolation unit in bethesda, maryland. it's specially equipped to handle ebola. the second nurse, amber vinson, is in emory hospital. in cleveland, two schools are closed and seven people are quarantined. why? amber vinson flew there on monday. the cdc told her that her temperature was not high enough for them to suggest she stay off the plane. also, a few hours ago, we learned that a yale university student who traveled to liberia recently is in the hospital and while we have seen many of these cases come back negative for ebola, we are keeping an eye on this given his travel history and the symptoms of his illness. all this as the director for the centers for disease and prevention control was grilled on capitol hill. let's just say this was not the most reassuring testimony we've ever heard.
