i'm jake tapper.he nation seems to be facing three urgent crises. one has to do with the killing of black americans by police that has spurred demands for policing reforms. there is, of course, the deadly pandemic that is still killing hundreds of americans every day with cases on the rise in more than a dozen states. and then, of course, tens of millions of americans are out of work amid fears of a lengthy recession. jointing me now to discuss all of this, but mainly the latter is the president's top economic advisor mr. kudlow. mr. kudlow, thank you for joining us. let's start with the federal government program for unemployed americans. it gives them an extra $600 a week in benefits but it's slated to run out in six weeks. the health effects, economic effects are going to last longer than that. should american families that are receiving these extra $600 checks right now expect that money to stop in august? >> well, unemployment benefits will not stop in august. what may well stop in this reform is

i'm jake tapper. we begin with breaking news in our national lead. moments ago the governor of minnesota announced a new investigation into the minneapolis police department, saying the state's department of human rights will launch civil rights investigations looking into the practices of the department for the last decade, after the killing of george floyd, the unarmed black man by a minneapolis police officer just eight days ago. in addition to that, right now friends and family of floyd are leading a march, a massive crowd to city hall in houston, george floyd's hometown, in honor of his memory. it is another day of protest today, another day of a nation on edge. in los angeles, protesters are under way as curfews are set to begin shortly. and right now protesters are already gathering outside the white house, at times chanting "i can't breathe," george floyd's last words. this comes as president trump once again is encouraging law enforcement to use aggressive tactics and calling for military action, saying new york city was "lost to looters" la

"the lead" with jake tapper is next. >>> welcome to "the lead," i'm jake tapper and we begin with breaking news in our national lead today. two former atlanta police officers have now turned themselves in for the police killing of rayshard brooks over the weekend, of course, following arrest warrants issued for both former police officers. minutes ago a new ex-officer garrett rolfe turning himself in. he's facing 11 charges, including murder for shooting brooks twice in the back. prosecutors also say that rolfe did not provide medical aid for more than two minutes, and even kicked rayshard brooks after shooting him twice in the back. the lawful representing rolfe argued his actions were entirely justified. the second officer involved, devin brosnan also turned himself in earlier today, though he is now out on bond. brosnan facing three charges including aggravated assault for allegedly standing on brooks's shoulders after the shooting. cnn's ryan young joins me live from atlanta. what do we know about the former officer turning himself in and what happens next? >> jake, you've got to think
