the same question for you, jamaal's book what is it about and what inspired you to write it why it was tearing america apart and i think ultimately about the central question of the constitutional history which is how do you marry a commitment to write with a commitment to pluralism and a commitment to equality and treating all of us as equals? the tension i think we don't always recognize or appreciate so at a broad level, that is what the book is about. i've been teaching constitutional law for the last 14 years, and in doing so i noticed that a lot of the problems with dealing with rights conflicts that i see in the classes when we talk about it in technical ways were case decisions in court, a lot of the problems i was seeing in the ways the courts deal with rights are replicated in the larger discourse outside of the wall. what do i mean by that? seeing their rights as binary, i'm seeing the rights as basicallyit absolute so that mes i have to win. seeing the rights as a central so that they are we don't see the value or the dignity the book isxt trying to marry some f the insight
