james, i appreciate you joining us. someone who's devoted his life to exploration as you have in many wasz under the sea, i'm wondering what's going through your mind tonight. >> well, thanks, anderson. i mean, obviously we're all -- we're all kind of heartsick from the outcome of this. and i've been living with it for a few days now as some of my other colleagues in the deep submergence community. i was out on a ship myself when the event happened on sunday. the first i heard of it was monday morning. i immediately got on my network because it's, you know, a very small community in the deep submergence group. and found out some information within about a half hour that they had lost coms and they had lost tracking sometimeimultaneo. the only scenario i could come up with in my mind that could account for that was an implosion, a shock wave event so powerful that it actually took out a secondary system that has its own pressure vessel and its own battery power supply, which is the transponder that the ship uses to track where the sub is. so i was thinking implosion then. that's monday morning. i got on the horn again with some other people, tracked down some intel that was probably

james clapper. director clapper, appreciate you being with us. i'm curious what stands out to you not just about the last 24 hours but the abrupt turn of events. >> andersonounting this military operation, which apparently -- the wagner group didn't have a lot of resistance, all of a sudden it's called off, april fool, and prigozhin -- prigozhin, excuse me, the head of the wagner group has agreed to go to belarus as an exile. this is a very strange turn of events to me, and it makes me wonder what putin did to leverage him to cause him to suddenly change and agree to such an arrangement. and belarus, by the way, is no safe haven for prigozhin because he -- russia -- i mean belarus is essentially an extension of russia. >> yeah, what i don't understand is if prigozhin goes into exile -- that's not the word that was used -- but if he goes to live in belarus which is a vassal state of russia, essentially, and he has -- maybe has a bunch of body guards around him, a bunch of thugs around him. but if he doesn't have his 20,000 wagner fighters he's very vulnerable. anybody can be taken out in belarus no matter how nice their house is and how secure their privat

hour, james cameron, of course the famous director of "the titanic," but who is also an expert in submersibles and himself has dived dozens of times to the actual titanic wreckage, told andersonhe sees between the sinking of the titanic and the oceangate expedition, and how there were obvious risks that were overlooked. >> i think there's a great, almost surreal irony here, which is titanic sank because the captain took it full steam into an ice field at night on a moonless night with very poor visibility, after he had been repeatedly been warned by telegram, by radio, during the day that that was ahead of him. i think we're also seeing a parallel here with unheeded warnings about a sub that was not certified, where the entire deep subcommunity -- not the entire community, but a lot of them wrote a letter to oceangate, the company, and said, we believe this could lead to catastrophe. >> with me now is richard wheat, friend of hamish harding, who was on board that titanic-bound submersible today. i want to talk about what james cameron said, and i know you know his expertise here. we talked last night about the hope you still had. what went through your mind when you heard tod
