we're joined by the author james andrew miller. good morning. >> good morning.s for having me. >> one of the things that's fascinating about caa and this is about all the agencies. this is everything. but i'm thinking of morris as well. is the role of private equity. given we're a finance show to some degree. >> right. >> when you look at what's happened to both of these agencies over time and the money that's been put in and taken out, you think to yourself what do they look like in the future? are d.o. they now just become sports agencies? is that where the money is? where's the money now in hollywood? >> tpg with caa and silver lake and others, i think they got smart because this is really a content play. >> when we talk now about -- in terms of talent agencies. >> they're big corporations that have access to lots of different things in the technological front and the content universe. so these companies are using this in a way there. is there a winner in this? >> i'm not sure. i'm not sure. it depends. william morris is playing for different rules than caa.

we have james andrew miller. congrats on the book. give me the elevator pitch. if people have never heard of caa and don't know this agency, what makes this book exciting? >> there's a paradox to it. few people outside of holly us all day. they're part of our lives than anyone of us realize. you turn on the radio, katy perry is there, that's caa. i just love the idea that there's this little iceberg there. people in hollywood know it but below the surface is a lot. >> a lot of celebrities are that kind of thing. is it dishy? >> it's dishy when it needs to be. not dishy for the sake of dishiness. i think there's a great story about what agents do because agents really don't talk about themselves. they are supposed to talk about their clients. now reversed it. we have a lot of stars talking about their agents and that's kind of fun. >> there's some great stories in this book. i want to run through just a few of them. sarah jessica parker, she really didn't want city." >> she really didn't want to do it. her agent who she's been with for a long time basically force

joining us now is the author, james andrew miller.m people t in the business, why is this story so fascinating? >> caa follows us all day from the morning through the night. when you watch j.j. watt on the football field you go into a chipotle caa is involved. >> talk about it. >> michael was the youngest of the five founders of caa and the least experienced and he wound up within six or seven years being the most powerful man in hollywood. >> why? >> because he had a drive and because the way the market was caa could impose its will. >> he liked being feared. it was part of how he accomplished things. >> you say ari doesn't really want to be feared, he wants to build a company, right? >> they all have their way of keeping score. it was about power, influence being feared and building a huge company. i think it is a different kind of climate. he really wants to make it into this colasis. >> and how he grew about himself, magic johnson says, geez, you should be running a movie stud you and michael ovitz says what? >> i am running them
