james carville said the voters are not -- but increasingly, they are. the republican base is enormously hopeful of beating president obama. and i think a candidate can argue they have a better shot at winning certainly gets an advantage. for people like bachmann and perry and gingrich, the challenge of why they motivate the republican base, so far is putting a pretty off independent voters more than mitt romney, who looks better right now among the suburban upper class swing voters. >> he would use these numbers to show he's more electable at the republican nominee. >> generally in polling, that has been the case. there have been some where gingrich has been as strong as romney. democrats would forcefully challenge this in a general election. all of this is before the choices have been framed in the general election, but romney i think does start off with a better asumgts that he has credibility on the economy than someone like gingrich who comes out of a washington culture that many americans are down on. >> thank you very much. newt gingrich's campaig
