the pershing county sheriff's department says james glanton and christina macintee took four children to play in the snow near love lock on sunday. they haven't been seen since. searchers have been scouring area which has been snowy and bitter cold this past week. >> it's getting more and more urgent as we -- as we go. but we're running out of time. and time is not on our side. >> the children range in age from 3 to 10 yores old. -- years old. >>> fire at a san francisco recycling plant has been burning for nearly ten hours now. it started at about 8:30 last night at the ecology plant off highway 101 near the bay train cal shore she is. it caused -- station. it caused smoky conditions that continued on after the fire began. firefighters tell us that made attacking the flames very difficult. >> the largest challenge we have of this fire right now is because of the being inside this large warehouse is the smoke. we're having to rotate crews in and out. and go through a lot of bottles. why they're in there working around the rubbish pile. >> the fire was contained to mostly a large pile

authorities saying 34-year-old james glanton, 25-year-old christina, their two children plus a niecewere found in fairly good condition. they were found inside their car, which had turned over and turned on its roof. miguel almaguer is in nevada. miguel, tell us what you learned about how they were able to stay alive until rescue workers were able to find them. >> reporter: thomas, the sheriff's department says they did all the right things to stay alive. apparently after that jeep overturned, we're told that the family was able to huddle together. the father and girlfriend keeping the children inside the car as they were able to start a small fire, gather enough material to start a small fire. they then heated up large rocks and made these rocks a heat source. took them in or very close to that jeep that then warmed up the sblr of the car where the children were taking safety. we're also told that the family had rationed out some food that they had brought. of course the kids and the two adults had come out for a day in the snow, so they were dressed properly, although they certainl

it all started out as a day to play in the snow. 34-year-old james glanton, his girlfriend, 25-year-old christina macintee, their two kids, and their niece and nephew, the children ranging in age from 3 to 10, heading into this picturesque mountain range here in nevada. driving in their silver jeep wrangler, they reportedly drove over an embankment, flipping the car upside-down, stranding them in the middle of nowhere. for two nights, the family survived on water and candy bars, burning one of the jeep's tires to keep warm. they even heated up rocks inside the burning tire, using them to warm the children at night, when temperatures bottomed out at 20 below zero. >> all of the kids were warm. their dad did an excellent job. >> reporter: rescuer chris montes has known this family for 20 years. >> first thing i did was give jay a big old hug. >> reporter: for two days, the search and rescue operation turned up no leads. the family says at night, they could see the helicopters overhead and hear rescue whistles. but they were out of cell phone range, unable to place a call. early tuesday mo

aircraft with night vision, infrared, dogs and ground crews searching for two adults 34-year-old james glanton and his 26-year-old girlfriend, christina mcintee. four children, ages 10, three, and two four-year-olds. two belong to the couple. the other is a niece and nephew. they were last seen on sunday afternoon in a black and silver jeep headed into the mountains more than an hour east of reno in some very rugged mountains. the seven troughs refer to seven steep canyons in remote federal land area popular with hikers and campers. the problem is, not just that the area is inaccessible. you have several inches of snow but temperatures hit minus 16 and 10 below last night. raising the risk of hypothermia which can begin at just 50 degrees. shivering, poor judgment and later confusion and a loss of consciousness. dozens of volunteers and police are headed out shortly to comb the area, hoping that the black roof of the jeep will stand out against the white snow allowing rescuers to get to the victims quickly. >> we don't know exactly where they were headed. we have a general idea and those areas

james glanton and christina macatees did appeared sunday, but along with them, these precious face, glanton'siece and nephew. their ages, between 3 and 10 years old. casey, tell me about -- i know teams are out there looking for them. has to be hampered by bad weather. >> it has been hampered by bad weather overnight. according to cnn producer chuck conder, who is en route to the scene right now, he is telling us they have actually found the family. that's the latest we have for you, brooke. i do not know what condition they are in. this has been a search that has been ongoing since sunday night. so we're now into the second day. obviously a lot of concern about the safety of this family given the temperatures that have dropped by some accounts to as much as 20 below zero overnight. we talked just a little while ago with the sheriffs office in the county there. they said they had as many as 200 people from different areas out there searching a 6,000-square mail area. but as i said earlier, chuck conder, cnn producer, telling us that the family, in fact, has been found. we'll have more details
