[laughter] now, so many subjects one can address. that is the oldest and most famous idea that he was a former slave that escaped and managed to write his first autobiography as an orator. there's so much more to douglas and it's been in the last 20 to 25 years that he has 30 years if you push it. it gets back to my first book he's taken seriously by political theorists and by law school professors and critics for a long time that's where it all started with one article after another on chapter one is the narrative beaten to a blood people. that must have stimulated 45 essays by literary critics. but all disciplines have now discovered douglas as artist and thinker and that wasn't always the case. if americans tended to know anything about douglas until relatively recent times, then that didn't mean anything at all. they knew something about t
