james: we see a situation where inflation has fallen significantly last week from the reading, and wee peaking of. u.s. interest rates. from that perspective, there is a case of more dollar weakness for the second half of this year. near term, there could be bottom-line volatility, but as long as inflation and policy rates start to peak in the u.s., we should see the trend of weakening of the dollar. haslinda: so everything gains versus the dollar, especially the yen. is that fair? james: i think the yen is an interesting story because for currency markets, it is a situation of policy divergence. in japan's case, it is a case where the currency is weakened considerably over the past few months because of the extremely easy monetary policy. but going into the months ahead, there could be a case whereby there might be some changes within the yield curve control, and that could provide some support were strength back to the japanese yen given it has depreciated a lot. david: since we are covering almost all assets now, your thoughts on cash and carry? james: i think cash worked well last

host: james, we got your point. think he is talking about the fact that perhaps transparency could help? he mentioned january 6. a lot of the people who testified to the january 6 committee were fellow republicans who were criticizing trump. i think he was talking about that partisanship. what are your thoughts? guest: it is true that if you look at the january 6 committee and a lot of the testimony being sought by the special counsel, it is almost entirely republicans who were testifying with factual information about what occurred. it probably also brings up a point about the electoral college which, of course, there is an active discussion going on and disagreements about whether the electoral college system we have, which only affects the presidential election, which, of course, says the electoral votes as determined by the states decide the presidency, not the overall popular vote. whether it is a good or bad idea , and a lot of us have strong opinions on that, it is enshrined in the u.s. constitution as part o

james, we always appreciate it. thanks for the time today. what what are the key economic data points that the fed is going to be focused on as they make this decision about whether to raise interest rates once again later on this year? well first and foremost, as it has been for the last two, almost three years now, our concerns about inflation, where as inflation going now, the favorite metric for the federal reserve is called the personal consumption expenditures index. and that number was just released today. and it was much better than people were expecting. in fact, it was some of the best numbers we've seen in two and a half years. and that's perfectly consistent with measures of wholesale inflation by the producer price index and by retail inflation as measured by the consumer price index. all three of these key indicators are showing that inflation is at the lowest it's been at over two years. and the trend is going down. and this is clearly an example where the trend is our friend. the other thing that the chairman mentioned was tha
