cnn's special correspondent jamie gangel joins us now. we're learning now details about how trump and other top officials handled the events of january 6th as they unfolded in this new excerpt from "i alone can fix it." there's scene in which trump is watching his supporters in maga hats and waving flags, very happy about continued a aides saying, quote, he thought this is cool. he was happy and the book quotes the aide as saying then when it turned violent he thought oh, crap. what more can you tell us about that? >> so this is january 6th. he's back at the white house. i think it tells us two things, jake. first of all, we know that donald trump was sitting at the white house enjoying watching the -- the insurrection happening, and it also speaks to when he knew about violence. there's been a lot of pushback oh, then president trump didn't know about violence. right from the start he knew there was violence. that's the oh, crap. for some context on those words oh, crap it was not because i'm told that he was worried about people getting

let's bring back elie honig, tristan rogers and jamie gangel. elie, you've combed through this indictment. what do we need to know? >> beyond that this indictment makes clear that there are others involved, we don't know where they are and we don't know in prosecutors have enough to indict these people. another thing important is the falsification of records. they allege that alan weisselberg directed a staff member to remove the notations, quote, per alan weisselberg, from the entries in donald trump's detailed general ledger. that's powerful evidence for prosecutors because it shows alan weisselberg at a minimum knew that what he was doing was wrong. he would not tell somebody, hey, take my name of that document, unless he knew it was wrong. prosecutors have a very strong case against alan weisselberg. >> tristan, you have been listening as well. you have a lot of experience with this having sued trump university. from what you heard from michael cohen, who has been interviewed by prosecutors eight or nine times and he's convinced there's more

and here is jamie gangel with more. >> reporter: we're getting a new glimpse into how unhinged the final days of the trump administration were. the top u.s. military officer chairman of the joint chiefs of staff mark milley was so shaken by trump's attitude, the big lie, after the election that he might possibly attempt a coup or take other dangerous or illegal action that milley and other top officials planned informally what they would do to stop such a coup attempt. this is according to excerpts in the book, general millie ey spe to top officers and lawmakers about just how worried he is about the possible threat of a coup and he is quoted as saying they may try but they are not going to fing succeed. you can't do this without the military, you can't do this without the cia and the fbi. we are the guys with the guns. he was really afraid after january 6 that there might be another attack. and this section of the book is as he is preparing for joe biden's inauguration. and the city's on lockdown but the day before he is really concerned about another attack by violent trump supporters.

cnn's jamie gangel spoke about the revelations with anderson cooper. >> milley was so shaken by trump's behavior that what he did was he got together with the other chiefs, the navy, the air force, the marines and they planned -- they believed there really could be a coup attempt by trump. and they write milley view trump as, quote, the classic authoritarian leader with nothing to lose. and then milley is quoted as saying this is a rife stag moment, the gospel of the furor. we've known people were concerned that trump wouldn't leave office. we reported that. to hear general milley say this, it is clear when you read the book, he cooperated. there are extensive quotes. >> and he comes off looking pretty good from what i understand. >> he does. and let's remember, he had his la fayette square very bad moment. >> which he apologized for. i believe he was in combat fatigues walking with the president from the white house to la fayette square. >> very bizarre moment. but to hear general milley say this is stunning. >> and there has already been strong reaction to the revelations in the book
